What exactly is true or real happiness? It is the question that most of us ask and seek to find an apt answer. In fact true or real happiness is relative. Our life...our existence: it is we who make it happy or sad.In this sense happiness is rather relative. LIFE...you can make a hell or a heaven out of it.In this perspective ,Happiness is what you make it.

To me, true happiness occurs when I stop seeking it. Because that means, that I am happy enough not to want it anymore. I believe that we are each creators of our experience in life and that there is always a choice. To fight something that is occurring is to cause conflict and leads to discomfort, but to accept all that life brings, whilst doing one's best, will bring an end to the need for happiness. If we are not needy, then must be happy.. - Derek

hi, nice topic...so, i think a lot in this, is our happiness here, near to us, when we see every morning sunshine, when we can walk, talk, eat or be in love?
Or to be happy is something very hard for us to touch? Is so hard for us to be happy? or we are happy but don t know that we are happy? When i see a person who can t see or walk or enjoy life as we can.
To be happy mean to be alive, to have this experience...life...is a gift!

Happiness is a wonderful emotion. I like to be happy all the time. It is part of living and the very essence of our existence. It is the true index of the quality of life. Without it life is dry and meaningless. very often when life seems dull and meaningless, or when we wonder what we are pursuing or living for, it is helpful to ask, "will this bring me happiness?" The ultimate goal in life is to be happy. We pursue this goal in all manner of ways, be it through leisure, career, wealth, relationship or others.

Sukumar-
I do agree that life is a very happy place. One can choose to be unhappy and discontent, or one can choose to be happy and content with whatever life brings them. It doesn't mean life will be without issues, because that is just not how life works. Life is a journey, and part of the journey will include rocks in our sandals. How we respond during those situations states a lot about our character, maturity, and even ourself as a spiritual being. When we learn to be in the moment we will find that entire new universes within this life open for us.

True happiness is seeing a reason for joy in everything you do. When you take a breath, when you feel the breeze on your skin, when you move your body, when you share a smile and spend time with the ones you love, all of those things are what brings happiness but at the same time are pure happiness. When you learn to revel in the every day you see beauty and goodness all around you and that, to me, is true happiness.

It is far better to be in control of one's own attitudes than to allow other people or situations to control us!

Forsure, I have known many people that have put someone elses happiness over thier own, I have done it myself but only in situations and it was my children, the only people I would ever put before myself. I believe in trying to help others achieve happiness and and occasionally taking second seat once in awhile. But in the case of overall life happiness, our own happiness is crucial because if we are unhappy how can we expect help others achieve happiness.

I haven't found true happiness. I am not sure of the meaning though. I am happy when I can provide with my family's needs, when my family have no problems and they are healthy, I am happy. When a stranger said thank you when I help them in a little way I am happy. There are many forms that we can say that we are happy, it is only us can answer what is true for us. Me, I am not happy for myself.

Life is a long long journey full of upa and downs ,trials and tribulations. But we have to do our best to face it with all our heart and soul.As Milton rightly says'the mind is its place and can make a heaven of hell and hell of heaven'.Happiness lies in ourselves. We can keep our mind happy or sad .So on the whole it is not wealth or any material thing which brings happiness to us .It is only the state of mind that matters.

Very good topic indeed. Everyone wants to be happy, and I truly agree that real happiness lies in our own hands, it does not come from any outward source. It's your perspective towards everything that makes or thwarts your happiness. In my opinion, most important thing to keep you happy, is to always count the blessings that Lord has bestowed upon us. This will not lead us to negative thought, we'll always be grateful and consequently, will remain happy.

I think we create our own happiness by learning to treasure what we have rather than feeling sad about what we don't have. When something happens in your life that makes you sad, you have to first accept that nothing you feel will change the event and then look for something positive in the event. Look deeply at the things you still do have too.
I've recently lost my husband of 38 years. Yes I'm sad that he's gone, I miss him terribly. How do I stay happy? I remember that his suffering is over, I believe that one day we will be re-united and I thank heaven for the wonderful memories of happy times we got to share and the children we made together. I remember I've a loving family around me and that I'm still loved and needed by others.
A friend recently sent me a quote that sums it up. You can't stop the rain from falling but you can see the beauty of the rainbow when it passes.

this is so true. you can either think & be happy or u can set around & make yourself miserable & everybody else around you miserable. happiness is a state of ming & it's up to you to make yourself happy. someone else can make u happy for awhile but they often don't stay around long. it's your decision to be happy or miserable. i choose happy!

I guess contentment is happiness. Learning to enjoy every moment you find yourself in, or at least cope well. Happiness is a vague word that cannot be defined universally easily. I think happiness I a choice that is not based on circumstances but what you make out of those circumstances.

nice topic discussion,...well hapiness or sadness are can not discribed like mathematics conversion. Its depend on each person to explain. For me, hapiness is for a long periode we have any difficult manner yet, in real world. Like healthty, enough money, can take vacation, have a wonderful jobs, etc. But it is imposible if it have not change for several period. For example We may have sick, lost our jobs, bankrupt or anything else. so for me, it is important to always enjoy our live. No matter what it takes. Nothing last forever. Like a running wheel, sometime up and down, just prepare for. thats all. keep spirit....

That is so true. I once tol someone who was miserable that the only way they could be happy was be just BE HAPPY. This person thought that was a bunch of crap because so many things were making them not happy. I couldn't get through to this person that you decide if it makes you happy or not, and I decide to be happy so I am.
Some people just don't get it.

Yes, I agree with you. Happiness can be defined in many meaning, but I think happiness is a feeling that we feel when we satisfied due to many things. We will be satisfied if we get or do what we want. Unfortunately, many of us feel this satisfaction rarely just because we can't mortify our flesh. :)

Yes and no. Sometimes bad things happen in your life and you have no control over them. I have been called a pestimest many times, because i always expect the worse. But if you think of it if you expect the worse and something good happens then you are really happy when it happens. If something bad does indeed happen then you aren't affected that much by it. I have really bad luck and my husband does as well, us together is extremly bad luck. Most of the time we just laugh at it, and we are happy. I cant think of changing my life for anything.

For me, happines is being able to see the good in the bad things that happens in life. Being able to smile even though there is pain and beng able to make someone else smile even though your heart is breaking. happiness is a choice we make. It is not a privilage or a duty one has to do. It is something felt by the heart.

true happiness is being content with your life as it is and not worrying about how other people live.
