Doesn't that word burn when you hear it? There is way too much of it in our lives as it is, I don't think it should be allowed to be spoken here on Mylot. It certainly isn't allowed in our house. A couple of times I have tried to use it in a discussion but I just feel dirty after using that word. I think Mylot should make it one of the words that isn't allowed on Mylot. All I can say is I really have a strong dislike for that word. What are your feelings about using the word HATE as often as it's used in discussions here?

I don't use it either offline or here online at all. It is such a harsh word and portrays something which I could never feel. I may say 'I don't like' this or that but never say anything further. It implies a very deep, horrid sentiment which can have the most awful repercussions that it doesn't bear thinking about. It also has a harsh effect on me whenever I happen to read it.

Glad I am not alone. :) I also 'dislike a lot' the words shut up and stupid Just two other words that don't need to be used. I guess I just grew up hearing those words directed towards me far too often.

Indeed those are two more to add to the list, not because they were used by people talking to me but thay have no sense to them and can harm the person they are directd too in my opinion. Likewise 'idiot'. Here in Italy the word 'ignorant' is mis-used. It is thrown about very lightly and used to offend too

Hi, I do not see any logic as to why this term is so offensive. There are different semantic layers attached to this word. If I say "I hate to leave mylot" - there is an overt meaning and has no intensive meaning that would lead to the depth of the heart of the malice and bitterness. Unless one goes to define it semantically, there should not be any question of its being a 'bad' word.

Well, this is a fair enough word. When ever people talk about their past love story then use this word, like, "I hate my boyfriend/girlfriend". I don't see any dirty in this word. Like yesterday, I read a discussion in which a lady was sharing a news from Canada, in which, a guy raped his own daughter and her daughter too. He was doing it for more than 12 years. What word would you use for this incident for this guy, HATE is a fair enough word for me. I don't want to use any abusive language!

I have had many girlfriends over the years, well until I got married 27 years ago. I stopped getting new girlfriends then. :) But I have never said I hate any of them. Using hate in a phrase where rape and murder is involved is completely fine and not what I was talking about. I am referring more to every day use like 'I hate it when I break a nail', that type of thing.

I try and avoid the word ‘hate’ as much as I can, which is more than often. I feel the word ‘hate’ has a finality to it, as if the matter can no longer be renegotiated and one person has forever been banned without any hope or scope…I dislike the rigidity of the word. I would rather go with the word ‘dislike’…its more milder.

as much as possible, i don't use the word but instead use the phrase " i don't like..." . i am this person who believes in mind clenasing, i fill my thoughts with good things and words are one of those things i filter. words are very powerful , if i use it, i know it will affect my frame of mind. I don't even want to rant of sy ill things about anything or anyone because i know my world is perfect in the sense that these realities made it so. am i making sense? i hope you understand what i am trying to say.lol!

Yeah I agree. I believe the bible says we are what we think, so keeping your mind clear of negative or bad things makes total sense.

i totally agree. those kinds of negative should be avoid if not that disallowed here in my lot. cause they tend to remind us of some negative things in our lives that we don't need to remember. just the mere mention of the word will definitely stir some negative feelings in our emotions and gives us bad mood.

Hi a word has different semantic layers of meaning as when they come into the specific context. I teach semantics in my college and this has taught me that no word is 'bad' on its own but application and the context determines the meaning. "Hate" is too plane a word. There is nothing objectionable with this word.

I say it a lot actually and so do all of the people around me. I've never thought twice about saying it here or anywhere for that matter because I never thought of it in the way that you mention. I've never thought of it as being offensive or dirty. I just tend to say it more than I "dislike" something. To me, it just means the same thing and goes hand in hand with dislike. I never mean hate in the dirty, offensive, craziness of the world way. I just mean I strongly dislike something.

Hey WebMann, I believe this is a great discussion point. Hate is such a strong word in my personal opinion. Instead of us using the word hate, it should be replaced with a more pleasing sounding word such as dislike. I am curious to see what the others feel about this as well and this opens up a good discussion. Will this be a better place with the word HATE not being used?
