Here in the Philippines, some Filipinos eat without using spoon and fork and used to such habit. Especially in far flunk areas or squatter areas, most houses have no spoon and fork when they have their breakfast, lunch or dinner. I, for myself, have instances where I don't like to eat using fork and spoon. I love to eat using my hands and fingers only when we are on a picnic with lots of barbecue, finger foods, grilled food. I can feel the justice of eating if I am using my hands. It seems like I am satisfied with what I eat, I can feel what I have eaten, when I am not using spoon and fork on those occasions. How about you?

Hello, yonkie! Well, I eat using my hands sometimes when the food has no soup. The hard thing on eating with bare hands is when the food was hot but I can still eat well even holding a hot rice in my hands happy mylotting and have a nice day!

Yes, it is really not nice to eat bare hands when there is soup in the table unless you don't like soup.

I think I can probably count the times that I eat rice with my bare hands. Its not that I enjoy it but because I am not really used to it. We were brought up to strictly use utensils when we eat, when I was younger, I must have only tried to use my hands once, when I was curious why my nanny was doing it. During my teenage years, I get to interact with people from different walks of life so I was once again able to experience eating rice with my hands. But I am really not good at it hehehe. I eat pizza, pitas and other finger foods with my hands of course

I can also see in Filipino movies that some actors and actresses are not good in eating rice using bare hands.

I would like to tell you that here in India we have a provice called Bihar where people don't have spoons at all and they are used to eating without spoons. Their staple food is rice and pulse and they eat it using their fingers. I have spent a few years in Bihar and I also picked their habit. Now I like to eat without spoons and fork but I don't do that in public like resturants.

It is also not good to look at if you are using bare hands while eating in restaurants especially those fine restaurants. By the way, thanks for sharing information about Bihar, India. It is an additional knowledge to me.

When its okay to eat using my hands, I do so and most of the time, I do that at home. I really don't mind using my hands but, there are just those cases wherein using my hands wouldn't look nice in public, except times wherein everyone else is using their hands like in a pizza parlor for example. (^_^ ) When the food really demands utensils, I would really have to use some like pasta or other viands that have sauce or anything with soup

Hi yonkie! Yes, I have tried eating without using spoon and fork. There are certain foods that are best eaten using the hands. I don't see anything wrong. As long as our hands are clean then there should be no problem.

Hello yonkie, I have no problems to eat with my right hand. I think I can feel and taste the food better with my hands. I rarely use fork and spoon unless when I have to attend something formal or whenever I eat out. At home, I prefer to use my right hand to eat. It makes me feel satisfied with what I eat and I can eat nicely without worrying too much.

I always eat without a spoon and fork. Most of the time i eat food with my hands. In the hotels i eat with a spoon or fork.Even at home i love to eat rice with hand. But there are foods like pudding which i have to eat with the spoon.I love eating noodles with the fork as it is easy to carry it and eat. With a spoon all the noodles will slip to the plate.

There are some things that taste better if you use your fingers but yet other types of food do require a fork or spoon, I tend to have cereals for my breakfast and use a spon to eat it. If I were to have chips, sandwich, barbeque food, and things I would use my fingers. I will use a fork for meals such as steak, salads, curries, and such. Here in England, using a knife and fork is considered polite and good manners. There are some thigns that have to be eaten with your fingers though. Great discussion

Hi, yonkie. If the food is able to be picked up with my fingers, then I will not use a fork nor spoon. If I am having cereal or grits then I will have to use a spoon to be able to enjoy my meal. I only don't use a fork and a spoon only in certain cases.

I often use spoon and fork to eat my meals. However, if the meal is composed of rice, grilled pork or sea foods we dipped in soy sauce or fish paste with calamansi I would likely use my hands. I eat more when I use them.

When I was still in the province I always use my hands to eat. When I moved in the city I used spoon and fork. I feel better eating with my bare clean hands but sometimes there are occasions where I can't use them. When in a buffet with lots of different people using hands with all the foods I eat is a no no. I only use my fingers then with finger foods of course. I also feel that the food I ate is more delicious when I use my hands especially when I eat using banana leaves instead of plates.

I'm from the philippines too.. and I have to agree... using your hands alone for eating gives a different sensation when eating. I usually eat more than I usually do when I use my hands.. x.x

It sounds like fun. I would like to eat foods that you usually eat with utensils without them sometime but I have only eaten finger foods and stuff with them. Sometimes it gets messy so I am not sure how much I could. I can;t stand getting messy.

Hi Yonkie, I am a chinese, so we use chopsticks. I have no problem eating withou forks and spoons. lol. I am not sure about using the hand. I know India people like to eat with their hand too. I can't do that, i think it's the cluture different. Anyway, as long as you are happy with eating, you can use whatever you like.

I hate not eating with a utensil. I even eat grilled cheese sandwich with a fork. I do not like to eat with my hands. I dont know why, but I do like to use a fork or spoon. Even chicken legs I use a fork and knife.

Like you, I'm also a Filipino. I've learned to eat using chopsticks, and, of course, using my bare hands. Sometimes, I even "drink" soup directly from the bowl, if there's no spoon.
