Did you do anything today to save money??

I did a couple of things. First, we tried a new white/wheat bread that wasn't the greatest, so I just made french toast to have for breakfast one day. No bread wasted. While at the grocery store, with my 8 year old, I was going over my receipt and noticed she picked up the $2.69 hot dog rolls, gulp. Exchanged them for the $1.09. Gotta keep my eye on her. She was only trying to help. Couldn't hang the laundry out to dry because it was day #2 with no sunshine. That's a bummer.

I kept it at 55 miles per hour all the way to work today, hopefully getting a little better gas mileage. Also, I remembered to pack a lunch so I wouldn't have to buy anything. Every little bit helps right?

I just wanted to comment on what you had wrote, I do agree that every little helps and in the long run it saves a lot. Think of how much you are saving weekly by just packing your lunch. For example, if one pays at the minimum of $6 dollars for lunch, multiply that with 5 days of the workweek that equals to $30 dollars times 4 weeks that is a pretty penny. One would save half the amount they would spend on eating a lunch that is already made then one they packed themselves. During these tough times every little helps and it does add up. Just think of all the saving you can do with just one simple change.

we had enough left over chicken from when we had company a couple of weeks ago (i threw it in the freezer) with pasta for supper; got glasses for our daughter for $79 (sears was getting rid of a bunch of discontinued frames and they gave us the lenses for free!); rode the bus for free (i walk with a quad cane and in my city, i am allowed to ride the bus for free (huge savings!).

Today I am going to buy some iced tea. The company that produces it is offering a rebate of 25$ when you buy so many of their product. The nice thing is when the product is on sale, it costs less than 25$ so essentially they are paying you to take it away. I was at the store yesterday buying some and expected to have none left, but there was lots, and nobody was buying. There is a limit of three rebates so this is my last shop for one. Sorry, this is only available in Canada.

Yes, for today i have turned the ref off for more than two hours so that i can iron some clothes. So far this is how we can save electricity. Last month our electricity consumption was Rs900+, and it lowered into Rs500. I also iron clothes once a week and wash clothes every once a week, unlike what i do before, i do wash and iron clothes twice a week. Now i saved water, laundry powder and electricity for ironing. Before i used to buy laundry soap and powder every 3 months. Now i was able to save it and it's been 6 months before i bought a laundry powder. I do hand wash by the way.

I went to the grocery store today and my bill was $50.00 and I had 13.00 worth of coupons so my grocery bill was $13.00. Also the shampoo I use was on sale for $1.99 and I had 2 coupons so I brought 2 of them and one coupon was $2.00 so I got it free and the other coupon was $1.00 off so I only had to pay .99 for it.

Well, today, I actually used a coupon to buy something that took a dollar off of a purchase. I don't think I did anything else today unfortunately to save money. I should think of it more though. I want to try to use coupons more and more because my partner and I will be living on our own here soon.

I am always trying to save some money. I do alot of my shopping online to avoid the long trip to the store. I find some really good deals and also get free shipping too.

Yes I did. The weather here was very nice today. So, instead of driving my car, I took the City bus to get to work. That saved money for the gasoline and also for the parking fees.

I used to hang clothes in the carport, rain, snow or shine. They still tried outside, which was cheaper than a dryer. You can also use lousy bread (I know what you mean - I've bought lower priced bread that I really didn't enjoy eating) to make bread crumbs, stuffing, bread pudding, or grilled cheese (for some reason, the cheese and butter usually change the taste and texture just enough). You can also make scalloped pineapple (aka Pineapple Souffle) or scalloped tomatoes with poor quality bread. The second one was made by my mother several times a year. She would tear up a loaf of bread (or whatever would fit a 2 qt casserole dish) and stir in a can of stewed tomatoes (not with whole tomatoes) and some chopped onion. You can season as you'd like and even add cheese if you want. Bake it until hot throughout and beginning to crisp on top. Something her family did during the depression when the meat was short, but the garden was plentiful. I've also used bread for hot dogs - put the dogs diagonal on the bread slice and fold around like a taco. Not always, because hot dog buns are better than just bread, but bread costs a lot less than the buns. Do you have an Aldi's near you? Try their bread - it is really quite good, and priced well under the regular groceries (and better than store brands). I've long refused to buy hot dogs with chicken in them, but have had to rethink that because of price. I enjoyed a couple today because I was in a hot dog mood. Bar S brand is decent and affordable. As for today, I haven't done anything to save money besides shutting off the AC since the temps have dropped. I haven't left the house and am keeping the lights off until I HAVE to turn them on.

I actually spent more money today than I have in a long time, but even in that I bought a couple of items in bulk to reduce the cost per serving. I arranged my travel today to get the most use out of my tranfer without having to pay another fair (those who use public transportation know what I'm talking about). I was going to take my duaghter out to dinner once we were done shopping but decided to go home and prepare dinner instead....saved a nice amount doing that!

I have! I am starting to get so proud of myself lately. I've turned saving money into a game and I'm enjoying seeing my savings add up at the grocery store. Actually just today my sister invited me to go shopping with her and I didn't buy anything. That is a huge step for me. I was tempted, so tempted! I made a list and stuck to it while grocery shopping as well and I was the one who actually got on my husband for buying off of the list. I actually just used coupons for the first time the other day too! Is that bad? It's awesome seeing the savings add up. I'll include this too since technically it counts for today because I would have had to have bought this stuff at the grocery store while I was there...I just started making my own cleaners, powder laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and dishwasher detergent. Everyone I know like mom, sister, friends, thought I was strange for doing it, but now they want in on it too. Apparently me taking a step to the more frugal side/green side is inspiring the people I know too. It's kind of cool and makes it even more fun, I think!

Those are all very good ways to save money at the supermarket. You should also compare prices and when purchasing a bigger size of the same item you might actually save more money then buying something of a smaller size. For example if you have a store brand of toilet paper and it comes in a a quantity of 24 and goes for $6 dollars or so and purchasing a brand named toilet paper for a quantity of 12 which is half the amount might cost anywhere near 7-8 dollars. The savings are clear and with the example of the hot dog rolls it makes sense to purchase what is cheaper.

I made up a sandwich filling instead of using a store brought one. I turned the fans on early to cool the house down so that I will not have to use the air conditioning very much. That's a big savings.
