Webcams at the beach

I'm in Florida and my best friend of many years is up in Maryland. This weekend she and her husband went to the beach at Ocean City. They have a lot of webcams there so you can go to the Ocean City website and see the people in various locations, live and in color. Whenever she goes to this beach we arrange a time when she will be in front of a particular pizza place on the boardwalk so that I can see her and her husband on camera. I make sure that I am at my computer and, when she calls, I go to the site...and there they are! She says that people always look at them like they're crazy as they wave at the camera but she knows that I'm watching and I enjoy seeing her...even though I wish I was there with her. Has anyone else ever used a webcam in this way? I think it's such fun!

It seems strange but I bet it is fun. My best friend is in Maryland also and I'm in Pennsylvania. We get to see each other but not as often as we would like. It sounds like something we might do.

I have a friend in Pennsylvania, too...in Allentown. We've been friends since the 6th. grade and we used to get together once or twice a year but I haven't seen her since we moved to Florida.

It's hard being in different states. We try to get together as often as we can. She's about 2 hours away. I'm near Gettysburg.

Sounds good to me. I know cruiselines have webcams at their ports and we can pretend we are going on a ship ( one of my favorite things to do)

I didn't know that! I'll have to check that out one day and pretend that I'm getting away from it all. A girl can dream, huh?

You know being a Florida resident gets you cruiseline discounts when they want to fill up ships at the last minute. So dreams can become a reality.

When my aunt would go to the beach she would always call and remind us that you can go to a certain website to see her and her husband / other various members of her family on the boardwalk. It's pretty cool that you can do that and I think it would be a lot of fun to wave to those back home and not on vacation, maybe teasing them by showing them taffy that your going to bring back to them, etc. lol.

Speaking of that great taffy, she's supposed to be sending me some. I can't wait!

That's very cool! We don't really have anything great that's close to us as to where there would be webcams LOL I could just imagine the people around your friend must think that they are crazy

Yes, Zeph, my friend says that they always get odd looks. It might be the fact that she's also yelling "HIIIII" to the camera even though we both know there's no sound.

I think those cameras are great. I used to go to that beach a couple of times every summer so I miss it.

It is such fun! We used to go to that beach all the time when I lived up north and I still check out the webcams from time to time. During the recent heavy snow in Maryland I checked the webcams and saw the boardwalk and the beach covered with snow for the first time in my life. It was way cool!

Hi. spalladino. No. I don't have a webcam, but it would be fun to have one though! If I had a webcam, I would use it just like your best friend has too. Never mind that people were looking at them like they were crazy, at least you could see them and talk to them. I think that would have been so much of fun and excitement!

I'm sorry sanuanu, I got busy and forgot to return to this discussion! Here's the link:

Sometimes it takes a second or three for the pictures to start to rotate but it should take you to all of the locations on the boardwalk automatically.
