***Do you sleep with the lights on?***

Normally when my husband is in the bed with me, the lights are off. But he is in the Army and there are times he is gone in the field for days. Those nights I am left alone Sometimes I will feel all brave and turn the lights off, but most of the time he is away, I am like a little girl with the lights on in the bathroom with the door open a few inches. I don't know why, but when I am alone, I think up the craziest thoughts! Before you know it, I am turning on a light! Out of no where, I will feel like someone is watching me....or fear that if someone sneaks in, I won't be able to see them in the dark. Does anyone else do this? Or am I the only one who sleeps with the lights on when alone???

I am exactly just like you! When the lights are off, my head goes crazy too. It keeps thinking that there are goblins lurking in my room and red eyes staring at me.. My imagination is kind of wild! I can't sleep with the lights totally off so I just sleep with the lampshade turned on instead. But when I'm with someone, it will be okay for me to sleep with the lights off. I feel brave when I'm with someone. Happy myLotting!

I am usually better with a nightlight than a full lighting or everything off, however I can eventually sleep with all the lights on, but I tend to awaken too easily if all the lights are on. I have a a harder time going to sleep if all the lights are off and it is pitch black, however during the night I fall back to sleep easily if it is dark. I compromise with a night light. One thing I do though to fall asleep is listen to talk radio. The talking drowns out all the house noises (the goblins ) an focuses my mind on the talking instead thinking about my problems. I can sleep all night with the radio on low. If I wake up I listen to the conversation for a few minutes and before I know it I am back to sleep. I did this when I was in hospital, it drowns out all the background noise and it was like I was at home.

Actually yes. Sometimes when I fall asleep with the television on it seems to happen more. My sleeping dreaming brain injects itself into the tv conversation or visa versa but it mixes it all up, but if I awake during the dream I realize it is what is going on the television. My sister says I should not do that as there might be something subliminal going on. I think if it was going to do damage I would be a basket case by now.

There are times that even with my fiance laying beside me and with a boot light on, and the lights from the fans on I'll get scared. It's usually something crazy I've thought up and I'll turn on the t.v., I usually wake my fiance up either if I do or don't turn on the t.v. I apologize to him and he says it's okay but that I have to remember we live in the country and no one is going to get us.

I usually sleep with the lights turn off but if I watch a horror film before I sleep and I am alone, I keep them open. LOL. I have a very wide imagination that I could imagine freaky and weird things popping up my head. To make my sanity intact, I have to keep my lights on.

I am the same way. My husband can't stand to have any lights on when he is home, but when he is not home I have to have something on. Normally just the TV will suffice, but sometimes I have to turn on a lamp or the bathroom light.

This is an interesting discussion and reading some of the responses made me think more of this question. I personally can remember a time in my life where I had to sleep with the lights on but as I grew older I grew out of doing so. I don't need to sleep with the lights on but at times when I just feel scared that there might be someone trying to sneak into the house, as I am the only person sleeping in my room and it being the back of the house with a door closeby this is the case. Depending on the situation and how I am feeling I would sleep with or without the lights on so it does vary.

Oh isnt it just scary to sleep all alone in the house? I know the feeling whenever my husband is out of town. Throughout the day I am happy coz I am free to do whatever I want to (no running around the house) but when night comes, boy...am I scared! I keep on watching TV till my tired eyes revolt and then grudgingly I switch off the lights...I want to keep them on, but I feel like such a child and chide myself. But usually the lights are off.

I don't mind sleeping with the lights off in a place where I feel comfortable. If I'm in a place where I'm not too familiar then I definitely do not like sleeping with the lights off. It makes me uncomfortable because if I wake up in the middle of the night then I cannot see where I am going or see what I am doing so then I get confused for a few seconds and that bothers me. Otherwise, I could care less about sleeping with the lights on or off.

Hi, tabsnlos! I don't sleep with the lights on, but I do set the tv to turn itself off after I've fallen asleep. Sometimes the house just seems too big and empty if it's quiet when my husband can't be here.

I just cannot sleep with lights on.When my child was born ,we used to sleep with lights because he was in the habit of waking up after every 2 hours for feed.So that time was really very tough to sleep well in the night.

I like to have a little light on when I sleep. I always have. When I was younger, I would leave the big overhead light on each night but now I am fine with just a small nightlight. My husband thinks it's funny that I still need the light after all these years, but he always makes sure I have one.

I dont like sleeping with the lights on if I have a choice. Really, I'd much rather have a completely pitch-black room, since I get better sleep that way.

Oh, we are totally different. :D I don't like to sleep with the lights on. I can not easily fall aleep if it is too bright in the room. It is uncomfortable to my eyes. So you know, I won't turn on lihgts when I sleep or i will stay awake, no matter I am alone or with someone else. Sometimes I go to bed earlier than my husband. But in fact I can really be asleep and have to wait for him till all the lights I can see are turned off. :)

Well I wont have the bedroom light shining on when I sleep...instead I will have the bathroom light on and the door open just a few inches so some light shines in. Trust me, I would much rather the lights off, but I get this scared feeling when I am home alone, so thats when the light comes on...Weird, I know.. LOL

Hi Tabsnlos, same here. When my husband goes out of town, I seem to hear noises in the quiet of the night, which don't seem to bother me whenever he's around. So I will definitely sleep with the lights and tv on.

I am alone a lot, since my husband is usually away on business. However, I cannot sleep unless the room is pitch black. I can't stand to have lights on. But I also watch horror movies all the time. I am able to recognize that those things aren't real. And while someone could be in my house watching or getting ready to kill me, the chances of that are pretty rare. So I put it out of my mind. I also have two large dogs that live with me. One is a pit bull. That would be enough to scare most people, even though if you spend more than a few seconds with her, you'll realize that she's no more a guard dog than my cat. She's a freakin' baby!

The only thing a stranger in our house would need to be aware of regarding Scarlet is that tail! She'll come straight up to anyone with that tail going 90 mph. She seems to say, "Pet me please." They don't even bark when the doorbell rings. They come with me to see who it is, but they don't give any warning that they're there. It surprises some people to see them when I open the door.

Well, I do know that Monsters won't come out of my closet, but I still think up wild things in my head... Its my own mental creations I guess, but they are pretty wild! LOL...so when the hubbs is away lights on or sometimes TV. Thats funny about your pit bull...ours is the same!

I slept with the lights on for the longest time. Now I have dogs and that helps. It also helps that I don't want to pay the extra money on the electric bill. If I am jumpy now adays, I lock the door to our bedroom, but I know that if anyone were to get in the house the dogs would be barking before they ever got up to my room.

I and my husband used to sleep with the lights off but when our baby came, we decided that it would be better if we'll just leave it on. Now my kid is 3 years old and she likes to sleep with the lights on. She still sleeps with us so we still have to deal with it.
