I am using an LG DVD writer and i never imagined it can burn a DVD in 4 minutes. It usually takes time especially when i'll burn the DVD occupying the entire space it has. It usually takes 30 minutes to burn. I don't know but it think it has something to do with your processor or ram. My computer is pretty slow in terms or processing power and ram so i guess it's understood that it took me around 30 minutes plus i decreased the burning speed to have a more stable process of burning.

Maybe the DVDs aren't quality enough to handle speeds your DVD writer can burn. Try changing the DVDs (Verbatim produces high quality DVD's which can be burned at even higher speeds than declared). I think it has nothing to do with your DVD drive because the only sign you get when drive is about to malfunction is that it can't calibrate laser so it makes strange noise or you got calibration error.

or maybe yo need to get mo Memory. Ram greatly affects burning speeds. less buffering = faster burning times. and like what's mentioned above, use good quality dvd discs. DVD disc that are evenly shaped, no extra prints on top. uneven disc can damage your dvd. destroyed 2 dvd writers already because of cheap DVD disc.
