Is just a question, but is a good idea too, to see what ideas peoples have about a small business. So...if somebody give you this money 10,000dollars, what you will start? A small business of course...i will start to make a business with flowers, or with antiques...don t need so much money, and peoples need to buy flowers for any ocassion, and are peoples who like to have in theirs home a antiques...of course that my choice is because this 2 business i like more...and is a hobby for me too...and all what we make with soul, will be the best. What about you? WHAT BUSINESS YOU WILL START IF SOMEBODY GIVE YOU 10,000 DOLLARS.

If someone handed me $10K I would start the gaming shop my husband and i have been talking about. We almost did that in early 2008 but when the economy started to buckle, we decided that ti wasn't the best move.

HI, I live California and the rent for business is expensive. $10,000 is not really enough to start small business to me... but if someone this me this much then, I might thinking about nail salon. very small one or share place with other. However, I am sure $10,000 is not enough. Another choice is invest in cars, I will let my buy cheap and realizable cars to sale. it might make good money if u know how to deal with business and all u have to invest $5000 at a time.

I already have a secondhand business that I run from my home, and if somebody gave me a pile of money I would rent a store front and open a regular secondhand store! It would be great to have a place to keep all this junk instead of cluttering up my house with it, and customers would have regular hours to come around and buy my treasures. Or I'd live off the money very frugally until I wrote a best-selling book, sent it to Oprah, and became rich on my own! I'll be waiting for your check.....

Ten thousand is not nearly enourgh to start any of the businesses that I would actually know how to run. Or at least none that require a brick and mortar location: restaurant, book store, occult shop, art gallery. Of course, if the money was handed to me right now, I would sink it into my current business: freelance writer. Ten thousand would actually allow me to get a new computer, so that me and my wife could both be on the computer at the same time; in theory, I would get more writing done. There are a few other things that I probably need also, like a top tier website. Ten thousand would not even last in my current business long. When did ten thousand dollars become a small amount of money?

Ten thousand dollars is nothing here in the USA. The only locations that you can rent with that type of money (all the lanlords want a year commitment) are locations that no customer will ever find you at. And in my case, it is either stick with my current business or do one that I understand (aka have experience in). One the biggest mistakes you can make is to start a business that you do not understand, that you do not have experience in already. For instance, a lot of people start restaurants without ever having been a manager, or even an employee of, and before the year is out, odds are they have gone out of business because they have not a clue how much it costs to run such a business. Ten thousand would not remotely be enough to set up any of the other business I know how to run. So yes, I would stick with my writing. You should be aware that when I say computer, I mean the entire package: computer, monitor, wireless hub, printer, new software, the works. As for the rest, as I said a top-tier website (a long term investment) which needs to be paid for at least a year (it takes awhile to set one up and get traffic). And there is the fact that some of my contacts would love to see me do some traveling to promote my writing. Oh by the way, I spent ten years managing a restaurant, it is something that I actually know the figures for, just like the other businesses I mentioned. When I say ten thousand is next to nothing, I mean it.

With this money, you can rent a modest location, and open a small store, or can make a bussines by phone, or try to buy some antiques, and start to find peoples who are interesed, and sell...in my opinion depend how much imagination you have.Just a computer with 10,000 dollars?

10,000 dollars would not get you very far in a small business. You need at least 50,000 to 100,ooo dollars that you do not need for a year or two until your business starts to make money. Most people are unaware of the cost of rent, insurance, heating and business taxes as well as tools or stock. Most small businesses do not make money in the first year or two. Some of the posters seem to be confused as to the difference between a small business and being self employed.

Well, if I get 10,000 $ from any source, I would like to open up an art gallery. I am an art lover basically, represent various artists of this region, but due to lack of funds, am unable to promote their art work. It can be in any big city, where art sells the most.

Hello dear. Well i got my calculator out and started to do the math: with 3.25 RON for 1 us dollar, that means about 32500 RON, about a quarter of a billion RON, not that much if you think about it. I am thinking of a tea house, or maybe a fast food shop. There is not so much you can do for a business with just 10.000 dollars except if you plan of getting another investor to partner up with you and get things going - maybe even a bank loan - but that means taking risks, but also having more money to start with.

I think I will own a bakery shop where people can eat and chill down on the sofa. I always dream of starting my own business. I want my store to be very grand and comfortable at the same time. Anyway, this is just my dream. Another alternative is to give it to my sister so that she can open her pharmacy. I know we will make alot of money if we can have our own store. Another alternative is to use it to buy an apartment and then rent it out. I'll just be sitting there at the end of month collecting money. :-)

I would say it still needs 1-2 years to accumulate the fund based on this 10000 US$~~LOL~ but,If somebody give me this money,I will spend all of them by travelling`~lol Have a nice day`

Well, maybe ten thousands dollars is a small amount of money in USA. But I think it can be something in China. According to exchange rate, I can receive more than 60,000 RMB. Of course it's not a big amount. But I think I can try to open a small restaurant near by business district. If management is well done, maybe it will be a good business.

I'd probably start a novelty shop or gift shop that sells handmade crafts and the likes. My sister is an artist and we used to make this small personalized things and sell it at school. Another option will be a furniture shop. The money I guess will be just enough to buy the small machines and not enough for the materials. A food business will also be profitable. Everybody needs to eat and most people love eating so this one would be a safe choice really.

I would start a resale shop in a college town, then emply students that wanted to work and work the schedule around their hours. I would also offer all the local school groups and nonprofits an extra 5% on their donations if they put my adds free in their papers and flyers to get theri families to donate to their cause and to shop there.

10,000 dollars is a big amount here already... if somebody will give me that, ill buy that small piece of lot i am eyeing here which is good for a small restaurant. i dont want to rent because rents here are high. since all people eat, i think restaurant would be a good idea for me since i cook well too. it'll be just a small restaurant so it will not be hard to maintain.
