Do you read your emails in order?

I was just curious if other people are like me and pick and choose the order in which you read your emails? Or do you read them in the order in which they are received?
Sometimes, if I am looking for something in particular, I will do a search when I first sign on. Then I usually go through and delete all of the spam. This narrows it down for me.
What about you? Does anyone else do this? Or do you just go down the line and read your emails in order? Just curious.

I do not, I pick and choose which ones I want to get outr of the way and deleted first, usually daily emails i get then delete them. THen I read the ones in which I am most suspenseful of or have worthwhile information, then I print them off and lastly but not least, I can settle down and begin answreing the mylot emails those are my favorite!

That's a good idea to print out some of your emails. My bf is not online and has no email address, so sometimes if I get a joke that I feel he will really get a kick out of I will save it in my email until he is around to show it to him. I guess I could just print these out and give them to him instead of waiting until he is around the computer.
Thanks for sharing your ideas with us in this discussion. Have a good evening!

I always delete the Spam first and then I look down the list to see who they are from and the subject and answer them according to what I think is most important or what I want to read first and then go after the less important ones.

Thank you for your response in this discussion greeneyedlady. That sounds pretty much like the general consensus hear in this conversation. If I have a lot of email, I like to get rid of that spam asap. That makes it a lot easier to sort through the rest of the email and pick and choose what I want to open in what order at that point.
Thanks again and have a great day myLotting!

I choose and pick certain mails to read first. For example, if there is email from friends or family, I will definitely read them first. Then follow by the promotion emails. Next I will pick those forward mail with interesting subject to read. Lastly, I will go through those subscription newsletter. I will only go down the line if there is not much emails inside my mailbox.

Redsponge, what a unique screen name and an avatar to match. That's so cute. I'm going to have to check out your profile. It appears that you are a creative individual. That is one thing that I am not. Not very creative anyway. LOL
Thanks for sharing the part of your day in which you check your email with us here in this discussion. And I hope you have a great day!

You speak of ever since you have used email. I remember the days when hardly anyone had my email address and I didn't get any spam. It was such a surprise when I would get an email message. And it wasn't even on a daily basis. I remember some of my friends only had access to email on the web tv at home. LOL I was one of the few who had access to email at work back then. Wow, how much things have changed.

Sounds like a great method if it works for you minniemadz. I guess we all have our own methods of checking our emails and doing a number of other things on the net and even in our own homes.
It is funny to see how many different ways there are to do such a minor task. Thank you for your response in this discussion. Enjoy the evening!

So which way do you read them, there Jafo36? Do you read them in the order in which they were received, which in most email programs would be from the bottom up? Or do you read them from the most recently received to the oldest? Just curious to see how many people do that?
Thanks for you response in this discussion and have a good day.

The first think I do is delete all the junk and spam. Then I will scan threw and see if there is something I really want to read first. If nothing sticks out, I willjust go in order.

I come here off and on between the other things that I do. Sometimes I may be active frequently, like I have been for the last week. And other times, I may go a couple of months only popping by here and there.
I do enjoy the conversation and since I work for myself and by myself, it is nice to have people to talk to in the middle of the day. I think it would be very easy for me to just stay here all day if I didn't have to make a living. LOL
Have a good day!

Hi there. First of all i choose my email interest, in the order of importance for me. The least important come last. After i have finished those, i may or may not take a look at the other mails (even if in general i don't get spam in my inbox) and sort them out or delete them depending on each individual case.

I think most of us read and go through our emails on a case by case basis. Some days we may read more than we toss out. Other days we may not have much time, so we don't even get a chance to read all of the funnies that come our way. I don't mind reading jokes if I have time. And certain people I know only forward the good ones on to me, so I try to make an effort to read those first chance I get.
Thanks for your response in this discussion and have a beautiful day!

I get a ridiculous amount of junk mail that doesnt seem to get filtered for whatever reason so I always just go through my emails and open which ever ones are relevant. Then usually once or twice a week I clean out my junk mail by just deleting everything which I can tell is junk just by looking at the sender or the subject matter of the email

Sounds a bit like what I do. Just maybe in a little different order.
I usually don't like to open the junk mail, as I am afraid of getting a virus. But sometimes I do just in case, if I'm not sure what it is.
The main reason I do this is because I once won $100, and I almost deleted the email. I thought it was just one of those junk emails that you get saying that you won. It turned out I really did win. I hope I haven't deleted any other winning notifications. LOL
Thanks for joining in on the discussion, and have a good evening!!!

It is great to hear that you won it from a survey website! I always wondered if anyone ever won from those prize draws - I always seem to get entered into one of those when I don't 'qualify' for a survey and I used to think - 'Oh great, another prize draw entry'. Looks like I should keep my hope up though!

No way. I receive so much mail each day I have to pick through it to them to get the important stuff first. Then I go back through and get the ones that catch me eye as being interesting. The others I may randomly delete or read, depending on my mood or the subject matter.

I hear ya, and I know exactly what you are saying. If I went through mine one by one, and in order, I could spend days on just one days worth of emails. I receive a lot of good stuff, and a lot of spam, and now and again I get notes or jokes from my friends.
Plus, I'd be reading the invitations for cookouts and such, sometime after the cookout already took place. LOL
Thanks for your response here lumenmom and I hope you have a great day!

It sounds like you are a pretty organized person dlr297. Not too many of us on here can actually say that, at least when it comes to reading our email in the order in which it was received. I try to have a method to my madness, but sometimes there is just no hope.

I have yet to determine how to sort my emails by sender. Actually, I hadn't ever even thought about it. Although, sometimes I will search my email for a specific word or phrase which may include an email address or subject. Then the program will only show the ones with those letters included in the email address or subject line.
Interesting, I think I will see if I can do this with my email program. Thanks for the idea and thanks for responding in this discussion. Have a great day!

I do read my e-mails from top to bottom, but skip out the ones that are not important at the time. If I get more than one e-mail from a particular sender, I read those from the bottom up. Unfortunately the ones I don't read just pile up because I say I'll read them later (yeah, right!). Right now, I have over 9,000 unread e-mails (and that's just from one e-mail service). I don't want to delete them because I still have an interest in them, but it's just the time I have to make to get to reading them.

Holy Cow! 9,000 emails...that's a lot of email. Mine only holds 999. After that anyone who sends me an email will get a message back that my inbox is full. This gives me great reason to keep a close eye on it and remove any unwanted emails first chance I get.
Good luck to you in making it through all of those emails. Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a nice day!

I find it very amusing how everyone seems to have a different method to checking their email accounts. I, myself, think that I probably hop and skip around mine more than I actually have a certain type of method. And it changes from time to time, just depending on whatever else I may be doing on the internet at the same time.
Thank you for your response in this discussion. Have a good day myLotting!

I use to read my emails according to the importance of the email not in order of receiving of the emails. I do receive junk emails daily, if the junk mail first was received in my Inbox , I will label it as spam . And for those mails in my spam box, I will quickly go through the list to see if any of my white list delivery into spam box , if not , I will just delete all the emails in spam box without open it.

I had a feeling that it meant something to that extent. I had just never heard that phrase before. I guess it should have been very logical, it is basically the opposite of putting someone on a black list. :) I'm just a little slow times I guess, LOL. Thanks for the explanation and have a great day!

I am not familiar with that phrase, white list. I would take it that means list of good email or perhaps email from people in your address book. I would be curious to find out the exact meaning of that if you get the chance.
I think that opening the email in order of importance, which is different for all of us, is pretty much the general consensus here in this discussion.
Thank you for your response, and have a great day!

I was offline for two weeks and I am Still trying to catch up.what I usually do is get rid of the spam.then i look to see if anyone has responed to any of my posts, if so, I r read them first. Then I work backwords, reading what was send the earliest. That's what I was doing until yesterday, I am waiting for a important email so I am responding to the newest posts.

I particularly look forward to actual email sent by friends. I would rather read those than anything else in my email but, if I don't get to see anything like that, I would just go with the notifications that I would get from the different sites that I am a member of. Then delete anything else that doesn't merit any interest from me (^_^")
I don't go in order since that's not really me at all.. whatever catches my attention first, I'd go for that but, as much as possible, I would look at actual email first from friends (^_^ )

It depends sometimes on how much time I have, but my usual routine is to delete the spam or anything else that I know I am not going to reply to. Then if there is anything of special interest, I might answer it, otherwise, I will just answer my mail in order. Sometimes I did that so I don't lose anything that I might want to skip over and forget to get it later.

Thanks for sharing your story of how you acquired your screen name. I think it's great that you have had yours for so long also. The only other screen name that I use is one that I use when I write articles. :) I use the screen name Monty Travels, which started when I was writing articles about different trips that I have taken. I really enjoy traveling, and that probably should have been one of my first screen names to begin with.
Thanks again and have a wonderful day!

I have had the same screen name since I've been online, over 10 years, myself. My daughter helped me think of it. When I first got online and was in chat rooms, which I don't do anymore, everyone would ask me what I write! I really don't, but I like to write and I had penpals for years and was always writing to someone OR working on the work I had brought home from my teaching job, so my daughter thought of idowrite. The 72 is the year that I graduated from high school.

I get around 150 emails a day...due to the many sites I belong to. Also many cute emails with pictures from friends...I start off by checking delete on all of them, then I scroll down and un-delete the ones I keep. Out of the 150, I usually end up with 15 I'll read. Now that I've joined MyLot, I get a lot more!!!

Hey there UpsideDownPineapple, and thank you for your response in this discussion. Yep, I'm not sure that anyone reads them in the order in which they arrive anymore. And, my email box pops up in the opposite order, so if anything that's how I scan them. But, not exactly how they are opened. Plus, if I am looking for something in particular, I will search for that first.
Thanks again, and have a great day!
