Do you dispose garbage in plastic garbage bags? is there a substitute to this?

I have stopped using plastic bags , and visit the market with a canvas bag to stuff in my shopping. But the problem is I have to use polythene bags for the garbage bins. What do you do with garbage use plastic garbage bags or is there other way to dispose garbage without adding to polluting the environment.

Some of the bags are now biodegradable....like the ones they supply for us for leaves etc.....also I know some stores have started using them. I do have my own bags I got for Christmas....they fold up neatly in little pouches so they are easy to carry and reusable...hopefully all will go to the biodegradable ones in the future.
