i disagree with you (sorry!)- money is not a must-have to live a full life. you can live a full and happy life and not have a lot of money. we are not rich by any means, but we are blessed enough to have money enough to do the things we want to do for the most part. but even if we couldn't, my family would still bring me enough fulfillment without having any money. if you put your joy and expectations in money it is very dangerous. money can be taken away, but your true joy and the people and relationships that make you happy and fulfilled will always be there.

Money is merely a means to an end. It is a currency through which we exchange something that we have in surplus for the things that we need that others have in surplus. It is what money can be exchanged for that is the real question. Most people think of the problem from the wrong end, something like this: Money - Desirable things - Happiness The correct formula goes something like this: 1) What will give me happiness? [Here you list a number of things that you need - the essentials - and a number of things that you want - the non-essentials but things which, after the needs are supplied, would be desirable to make life more congenial.] 2) How can I best see that, first, the needs are supplied and, second, the wants? 3) What does life require of me to achieve this? Often, the logical answer to the last question is to exchange something that you have for money in order to supply the things that you need and want - in as far as those things can be bought. Money is actually the last ingredient in the equation - and should really only be the last resort in achieving what you want, after you have explored all other methods. You have, perhaps, heard the saying "Money is the root of all evil". It's a bad and incorrect saying because it is misquoted and not true! The correct quotation is: "The love of money is the root of all evil." Now, if you think about it, you will see that it is true. Money itself is just a tool, a means of changing one thing into another. You don't need any more of it than what will actually supply your needs comfortably and, in fact, having more is useless unless there is something that you lack. If you already have the best car or house that money can buy, it is pointless having another unless it is really useful to you (or to someone else). Just gathering money for the sake of it is like playing a game of Monopoly with it. The money simply becomes a score in a game and is of no use to you or anyone else. That is why it is the LOVE of money, rather than money itself, which is evil.

Well I guess it depends on where you live. If you can provide for yourself and need no one else you may just be able to survive with no money, but that's rare. Usually I hear it said that it's the love of money that's the problem. Not just living without money. The only place I think you might be able to live here where I live, without money, would be survive on the streets, homeless. I did this for a year in Toronto back in the early 1980s and did fine. Even when it was 30 or more below zero I always found a place to sleep that was warm and dry. And there was always someone that would feed me something. I don't know how people survive to day living on the streets here during the winter. There aren't nearly as many places that one can live undetected.
