why does ebay allow people to only charge a couple of dollars for an item, yet charge $40 for shipping? that seems so unfair! would you pay that much for shipping? i tend to boycott sellers that pull this sort of stunt!

I really hate when sellers on eBay pull mess like that! It always bugs me when I see an item for sale when a relatively cheap price and them wham...huge shipping prices to make up for setting the price so low. I've never seen anyone go that high though. That is really ridiculous.

Well in the defense of a seller on ebay, it is hard to decide on a fair shipping price. I have put prices that were under the price of what it costed me to ship. I actually use a set price nowadays. I have no way without paying extra for the shipping calcualtor to know what the cost will be. I wanted to put my two cents into this as well. Oh and another thing I got this really pretty white shirt for my daughter for Chirstmas and the shirt was like a few days and the shipping was kinda of high since the lady lived like 20 miles from me. I know it did not cost her that much to ship the item but I did not care I love my daughter and I know she loved the shirt. Take care and happy mylotting to you as well.

Our daughter bought some really cute Baby Einstein dvd's. They were cheap enough but the shipping was ridiculous. I don't know enough about e-Bay to make an assumption but think this has to do with the seller. Seems they can profit more for shipping an item. If I am wrong, please correct me. I can take it..lol

It's actually against Ebay policy to try to meet your costs through false shipping costs. It clearly states that you must you the bidding price to cover your listing fees and cost of item, and that you can not spike your shipping and handling. If you really wanted to be mean, you could go around and report every listing you see that does it. Especially the ones that you know for sure cannot cost that much to ship.

That is so annoying! I also really don't like the sellers that don't list the shipping and then try to charge a ridiculous amount later on. I haven't had to deal with such sellers personally, but it is really ridiculous. A lot of these sellers are from Asia, usually China or Hong Kong, so I just change my settings to North America or United States only. I also sort items by lowest price+shipping. Then the ridiculous charged items are waaay in the back of the list.

LOL.. I agree 150%! It is absolutely ridiculous that shipping for an item can be listed as double or even triple the items value (unless its some oversized item of some sort. I think it has something to the fees Ebay charges (which are based of of your asking price), another theory I have is that people put the asking price low so they show up at the top of the list when people search price by lowest to highest.

I agree that those people should be stopped because it's just another way to deceive people. I got nailed that way once but I went right to eBay and told them what that user was doing but inflating the shipping costs by a ridiculous amount. Now I make sure I check the shipping costs and if they are high I tell them that's why I don't bid on their items.
