What can i do if my mail id is hacked?

I hope you all know the value of personal mail id.It contains most of my personal mails,contacts and email id's,to make the things worst i don't have back up of my contacts ,mails .So if this mail id is gone my life is doomed.How can i regain the access of the mail id if some one has took over it. I promise i have never revealed my password to any one and the password strength is also high.
Please help me out of this problem.

Are you able to log in? if so, try to contact the main website. let say, Yahoo... you have to contact Yahoo about it. I hate to say to change your email but if you could get in then email to all of your friends for a new email address. it happened and it will happen to anyone that not careful using internet.

No i am not able to login and to make things worse my friends are receiving abusive mails from my mail id .The mail id's in those contacts are including my Boss and Sr at office.

I suggest that you get a nem mail account. This is painful but inevitable sometimes. After getting a new account, send a mail to the persons you have their addresses in your old mail account about your new email address. Please continue to explore why your account was hacked and the new lessons should be of great help.
