Is it inevitable that a money making section brings promoters?

Take a look around the make extra money section. You're bound to see people trying to get referrals. Come on, it's worth a shot, right?
But here's the question. Why did you come to this section? Was it to promote a bunch of websites, or was it to actually discuss was to make extra money? I'm really curious.

I come to this section for two real reasons. Firstly to find out what people are saying about money making sites, usually I find one or two new sites which I haven't heard of before. Secondly people who post questions about blogging/ seo in this section rarely get answered in any depth and as it is something I know about I try and answer these questions.
As for promoting your own site here, well yes I do occassionaly make reference to the link in my profile but I would take a guess that for every 20 questions answered I refer to it once.
I honestly don't see an issue with doing it as long as you take the effort to provide a decent response which answers the question rather than a two sentence spam message.

I came to this section to help people in finding Legit making sites, that I have found not to be scams. And yes I have noticed a lot of people trying to get referrals, mostly because that is the only way they can actually try to increase their money for that site. Everyone has their reasons.
