I'm going on Thursday to have a massage. Its the first time I've ever gone for one. Decided to get one because my back hurts a bit - has ever since i was about 15 and I had a horse flip backwards on top of me. My insurance covers it so I'm pretty pumped about that. Have you ever gone for a massage? What sorts of massages are there and do you like them?

If you have found a good therapist then it could be a good experience. It may or may not help you back, depends on the problem. It will relax the muscles and rid the body of toxins so be sure to drink more water for a few days. A good therapist will want a doctors report on your back before they do something that could do more harm than good. But as your insurance is covering this then I am sure that that has been done. I found a man in Midland Texas that was wonderful but Paul is still in Midland and teaches meaasage through a school out of Austin. I wish you the best of luck. Know that it can take more than one to stop the pain as the body will reset itself because your accident was several years ago, be prepare to go several times, and relax and enjoy. If they offer to "center" you then you have found one of the best in the business, and if they move their hand away and mention it burning or stinging them make another appointment (again this means that they are one of the best as long as you know that it is an extension of the area you are havinf a problem with) with me it was my right hip which was an extension from the area in my back that had bothered me for years. Good luck and God bless.

Good to know about the water - I'll make sure to do that. The therapist already has the info from my doctor - i took it over this afternoon when i made the appointment. I'm told the lady/ladies at the place im going are really good - been told by lots of people and was told by others not to go to the other place in town. I intend to go a few times - esp if it helps!

I agree with just about everything you said...except the part about a good therapist will ask for a doctors report. That (at least in CA) is something you are more likely to find with a physical therapist more than a massage therapist. If a massage therapist is trained and knows what they are doing, it is very hard to 'do more harm than good.' We do not do adjustments...we only work with muscle tissue, and can feel if there is something wrong that we need to refer to a doctor. I am glad you found a good therapist :)

I agree with you to a point, but I have had so much done to my back over the last 10 years due to arthritis in my spine that I have been told never to let anyone touch it without that know and understand the reprots and are working with my doctor. Most people do not have my problem though and I need to keep that in mind. Over all it is a wonderful profession and one that I have a daughtker that trained in the field, but did not keep her liscense after becoming a teacher

I have never had a proffesional massage before. I really want one thought. I hold all my stress in my back. That is one of the things I hate about living on my own. No family or friends near by to give me a back rub. When my mom and sis come to visit Im alwaying asking for a massage.

I hope that you had a wonderful massage and that it helps your back. I just started getting massages a couple years ago and they are wonderful. I wish that I had gotten massages a long time ago. They feel really good and helps relieve stress and help your body feel better. There are various types of massages like swedish massage, deep tissue massage and some others ones. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover massages so I am not able to afford to do them frequently.

Hi saundyl! I hope that you enjoy your massage! I have had a few in my time and hated them! I also worked for a chiropractor and hated those massages too! I just don't especially like anyone touching me that I don't know, I think! A massage is relaxing if you let yourself be relaxed so you probably will enjoy it! The ones that I had were a bit too rough for me! I am very sensitive! lol I think that you will probably come back and say that it was heavenly! Please let us know what you thought about it! Everyone has a different take on them and most people love them! I am the oddball so don't go by me! Enjoy and relax!

I hope i like it too. I went a chiropractor three times for adjustments to my neck I was supposed to go 8 times but i just didnt like it...esp the sound in my head when they adjusted my neck i was really scared they were gonna accidently break me! My friend really likes both massages and trips to the chiropractor. My boyfriend doesnt like massages - he says he doesnt like strangers touching him.

I think the best for that would be to talk to people who go, especially those that it has helped and that enjoy it. I'll be honest and say i'm very leery of them after one place my uncle went to broke his shoulder and didnt even tell him they did it so he could get proper medical treatment for it they just sent him home.

I get massages on a regular basis. I get 'em at least thrice in a month. I sometimes go to the Spa, but when I'm too tired and I just want to go sleep right after the massage, I avail of Home Service Massage. It is pretty popular here in my country.

Your insurance pays for massages? Nice! Take advantage of it. I, for 1, only have massages once a month and sometimes every other month. It gets rids of stress and helps you rejuvenate.

One year my husband gave me a gift certificate for one at a local salon, and I was so nervous about it it took me three months to decide to use it. I spoke to a lady when I booked and then was totally shocked when the masseuse turned out to be a masseur. It was cool, he made me feel very comfortable and we talked about a lot of stuff. I cannot tell you all about massages, but this one was good, with a little aroma therapy going on and some awesome music and candles and a very nice person making me feel good. I have lots of friends who do this regularly.

Massage is good for your health...both body and mind. There are many kinds of massage...Swedish (mostly just relaxation), deep tissue (working out the 'knots,' or muscle spasms), Shiatsu, Thai Massage, and more. I am a massage therapist, and I like the deep tissue the best. I like that kind mainly because I feel sooooo much better after the knots are worked out of my back and shoulders. I suggest, since it is your 1st time, make sure you communicate with the therapist and tell him or her if they are working your muscles too hard or too soft. There is no way they can know without feedback from you. I hope your massage is a good experience for you!!!

I once went for a foot massage at Oasis Mall at Dubai. The person there gave me a professional massage. I was experiencing pain in my heels. It had turned unbearable. Just thirty minutes massage had me back on my feet. He recommended that I must ferment my heels in warm water with little Epsom salt added to it. I did that and I was fine.
