What is the point of blogging on mylot. Does it have any effect on your account, can it help you with anything, or is it just a neutral thing you can just do in your spare time?

I don't know if mylot will pay you for that, but I think it's great traffic to your blog once you get approved from mylot, and naturally you can earn money from various method in your blog, so it is worth trying.
Although I still can't get my blog approved from mylot yet

i think they just do it, you have to have all the right information set up in the database, and then you will be able to have it on the site.
