I'm usually the one that forgets special dates until the day hit me in the face, my husband is very good with remembering special dates. So now I write the dates down on every calendar, and blackberry to ensure I remember our special dates. No reason to get upset if it does happen. I think if you try and appreciate each other daily forgetting an important date wont hit home that hard. And make it for it later.

It was 2 years running my husband forgot our wedding anniversary. I was really upset. I feel that the marriage was not important to him. The wedding anniversary was a very important day of the year where I remember the day when we exchange the vows.
If he forgets this year, I don't think I will be as forgiving. It will mean that he would have forgotten 3 years in a row. I certainly don't want that to happen. It will be nice if he remembers.

I am the type that appreciate birthday and anniversaries. It's not much to remember and I don't intend to recall almost all anniversary, just the date for our special day like wedding and such. There's no need to remember when we first meet, our first date and all. If even that is hard to remember, I'll be really angry. For me, the dates signify how much he appreciate me and I don't ask to remember too much if it's too hard to do. Keep forgetting isn't a good idea.
