Sunny Kitten has turned Mini-Murderer

My 11 month old ginger kitten has alway wanted to go outside so at Easter when it was warm he wall finally given the chance to explore without his harness. He has been very good and usually comes home when I call so he's never out when I have to go to school, shopping etc. This morning I feel he may have passed some rite of passage as he was chasing a bird round my lounge - NOT ACCEPTABLE, lol. I got them both outside and the poor thing flew away but silly, silly me I left Sunny outside too. Minutes later I could hear his bell jingling under my bed where between shoe boxes and books he was having another game with this poor little creature. I couldn't do much about it as I didn't want to scare the kids (my oldest has special needs) so I had to just pull him out and leave it till they have gone to school. Sunny was furious biting and hissing until he escaped outside when we left for school. He met me his usual happy little self on my return, but I cannot find this little sparrows head; will he have eaten it, he left the rest? Is there a way to stop him bringing his games indoors? I do not want to shut him out especially with warmer summer days coming. Any ideas?

He's just responding to millions of years of evolution to hunt and kill now, if you want to keep him from bringing in his prey, then you have to watch him carefully My mother learned that Suky liked to bring home her "toys" and so she watched her when she came inside. Suky would carry her head a certain way when she had prey. No, the only way you can keep his toys outside, is to make sure he's toy-free when you bring him in.

Thank-you so much, I really have no idea! My dads cat and my old cat never did this, part of me is amused and proud of him but I do feel sorry for his new toys. I thought his bell and his tag tinkling together was meant to give everyone a clue that it was time to run, hop or fly away, oh well I like a challenge and he's certainly very proud of himself. After cleaning up after his little sparrow adventure it rained and I could hear him under my bed again. This time it was a frog, cute sweet and hopping about happily. The frog is now back in the raspberry patch, the door is closed and Sunny is happily munching some chicken in the kitchen. Bet your mum loved Suky toys too, I can see I am going to have my hands full, lol!

After the mouse, mom really watched her. she came in with the mouse and let it go - Picture this, mouse runs, Suky chases and mom chases cat! Suky catches mouse, mom catches Suky and puts both of them outside.

Sunny kitten has become smart and adventurous! You have to accept that dear! lol... It's good to see to starting discussion after a long long time and I just couldn't resist myself dropping in even though I do not know what to say about this. I am sorry dear. I think, the act that you do not want him shut indoor and just want him to be little more well behaved is appreciable. But as to how to stop him from bringing his games inside, I have no idea.

Thank-you my dear, I know I have to let him grow up but yuck! I have French doors from my bedroom to the patio and back garden so he's in and out all the time. Polly cat never caught anything so this is all new to me. He is of course incredibly proud of himself and his little cat saunter makes me laugh. Yes it has been a long time since I joined in, I rarely have two minutes peace anymore but I am going to try harder. Thanks for replying sweetie, hope you have a fab day! I'm off back to my cleaning, what joy lol.

It's hard to take, I know. My Banjo brings home mice or catches them when they get inside. He plays with them till they die of exhaustion then he eats them. It makes me quite ill and I can't accept that that behaviour is part of who he is. Banjo's Dad was a feral cat and Banjo has some of these feral traits. He is also quite rough with his play and hate\s it that I'm making him be an inside cat. He tries to get out when ever he can and this makes life miserable for both of us. He is tearing up my lovely, lacy, curtains and destroys anything breakable in his path.

Poor Banjo, Sunnys dad was s bit wild too and Sunny does like to play rough, after my Polly cat who wasn't very catty at all it comes as a bit of a shock, lol! Still at least Banjo eats his playthings, Sunny had a frog under my bed to watch but I rescued it and so far nothing else thank goodness. I like to pretend he is sweet and lovable even if part of me secretly admits he is a murderous tyke, bless him. Hope things calm down with Banjo!

Maybe he killed the bird. Animal has these natural instinct in killing smaller creature. Don't be shocked. That is their nature, and we have to consider it.
