For me it wasn't watching the NBA. It was the year I first played organized ball when I was 13 years old. One of our guys just took the inbound pass and spotted another player streaking for the other end. This was on a regulation court no matchbox gymnasium. Launches the ball full court but the throw is long. Everybody just stops and watches it because we figure it is going out of bounds. Ball hits the front edge of the rim and goes straight up almost to the ceiling bounces on the top edge of the backboard a couple times and then drops through for the score. Other team kind of gave up after that. It was obvious the basketball gods were smiling on us.

The greatest shot that I have ever witnessed live was when Robert Horry hit the game winner in game 5 or 6 of the western conference finals a few years back. The man was having a terrible series shooting the ball, and stepped up big when it counted most, as the lakers beat the kings in that series and eventually won the championship. I was rooting for Sacremento, but the shot was amazing, and it made "Big Shot Bob" an instant favorite for me to watch.
