Hello cudamani, well in my opinion both is necessary. Sometimes, it happens that someone can only show pity and cannot really help with anything other than feeling the compassion for the suffer. For me kind people are them, when looks the pain or every feeling of the other creature, and by creature I mean every thing no just human being with the compassion, being selfless and who is just determined to be happy for making every one happy. I don't consider a man to be kind, if he is kind only to the people he know, he has to also be kind and caring to the unknown people and even all the creatures.

I agree with the first two respondents, the man who is helpfull is the knid man. To take pity, does not take effort, most people take pity for others. To actualy stick your hand out and help others takes something from a person. Many times there is no phicycal reward, but the satisfaction of helping is reward enough.
To help others, you offer something of yourself, then you become a giver. A giver always has peace, and find pleasure in helping. To take pity on others is passive, helping is active. You will that the one that helps, naturaly has pity.
Blessings

As far as im concerned the person who tries to help others is the kind man as most people generally dont want people to feel sorry for them and would rather that a person tried to stop them wanting sympathy. If you help others your a kind person as it shows that you dont mind using your time to help others and that your not a selfish person.
