Well I just started playing WoW and I was wondering how I should go about being a Paladin. I figure I should mention I'm a blood elf as well. Basically I have a few questions, and any answers you can provide for any of them would be greatly appreciated.
What role should paladins fill? Would they be tanks, healers, buffers, etc?
Which stats should I increase the most, and what kind of equipment should I buy to achieve these stats?
How should I spend my talent points?
Which spells/abilities do paladins use most often?
What should I know to minimize downtime?
Any tips you could give me would be great. I know how people are about party members who can't step up and tough it out, thanks ahead of time.

Bloodelf are good at holy - type paladins. Actually the best race for paladins are human (priest too)since their beginning stats are all same, exactly what a versatile class needs. Bloodelf lacks strength, which causes them to have no warrior class. But still, ur lack in strength can be made up with good gears, but you'll not be as good as other classes paladins if both of your gears are the same.
tell me what specs u wanna be in.... I know some stuff about shockadins and retri paladins.

Being a shockadin is very outdated specially with dualspec present. There is absolute no way a shockadin will outdo retribution paladins in damage and in support. Shockadin is not a viable option if you're intending to DPS then retribution is the way to go.

I wanted to update this even though its an old thread. I've been playing Paladin as my main for about 6 months now and love it. The damage per second (DPS) is great and easy to do and its also fairly easy to pick up and start healing with a Paladin as well.
If you're trying to be a DPS then its best to focus on strength items, and if you wanna do Healing try to get high Intelligence items (including gemming your items for int.
To DPS theres a formula, or lack thereof, called FCFS (literally: first come first serve)Just start using your attacks then reuse them as they come off cooldown and are usable again. Certain cooldowns should be used first if theres a tie in them being ready, but thats not super important when you are starting out as just getting the rhythm down of using your skills all the time and realizing how to use your mana effectively.
For specifics on being a healer join a guild, make some friends and get advice from the senior healers that have been around awhile, you'll be doing a great job in no time.
Hope this helps some.
