Here's a question for you Ciao members and old members... 'Did Banning some countries from Ciao solve anything?' My answer to that would be Not Really! Reason being I am still seeing a lot of fake reviews, clicking cartels, spamming and a lot of gaming the system going on.. Most of the times I visit the site, I will look at 'new reviews' and today's are all fake reviews apart from one or two and even then half of these two consists of product specs copied from another site.. Some are totally ridiculous..take this for example! I am regard this pot the body to go the cutin to use, the effect is very good! Very careful, does not need the worry to be able to injure the skin. Because the product is in itself bathes the dew, therefore may go to cutin one time to complete cleanly. The fragrance is good, goes to the cutin effect also very good implication rich protein and the mineral substance, may for the flesh supplement nutrient, maintain the flesh elasticity. Provides the health protection for the skin, causes the flesh to be exempt from the outside poor surroundings the invasion. In addition, and it includes two kind of different plant US skin ingredient, enables the flesh while to obtain clean to absorb the nutrient, becomes fresh, the nature, the health. Simultaneously has the whitening and the moisturizer effect, lets the flesh heavy bright natural brilliance. Unbelievably, the above review is for a brand of Shower Gel!!! It has been rated 'very helpful' and 'helpful'! Many similar reviews and clicking cartels still... What do you think?

I stopped writing for them since last year. That was before the ban and (not intending on any countries in particular), I got spammed like nobody's business from different people each time. I thought it was cool to have a few hundred friends requests, and thought either this is too good to be true, or that the friends there in general are totally friendly. Then I got my inbox flooded after I accepted friends' requests. Please rate me and I will rate you back kind of message. I deleted one by one. I don't need to be told what to rate. If I find a very deserving review, I will definitely give it a positive. And I don't rate those negative reviews there as negative, I just let them be. After awhile, writing there seem to be a bit hard with the spammers around that I totally lost focus and I've been hibernating since. Spammers really can deter a mood for writing. But there are other factors too, which made me totally stopped writing for awhile. Sometimes, I just log on to check on the news page and etc and still trying to clear my never-ending inbox. I get irritated by spammers in general (and they can be anyone from any country). I felt the ban on a specific country was not needed, they need to ban any spammers at all. One by one, that is. Not generally like that. That's my best opinion, but of course, Ciao must have their own set of special reasons for doing things and I don't know the whys and the hows. This is what I personally feel as a user of the site based from my participation before.

LOL...you are so right. I think in ciao, you need to be friends to rate, right? I have lots of pending friend requests too, I just checked just now and I'm going to let it be. It's definitely hard to do review once there are all these distractions.

What I do with the friend requests now is not accept them, just leave them there as I get all sorts of requests to read and rate their new reviews, then have to clear pages and pages of the inbox! aaargh! Now, I have 25 friend requests and not adding them... they do not have to rate my reviews, can't deal with their spam!

lol =D Well, u cant really blame ciao for anything.. Though ciao is banning asian members, but it seems that they are only banning users with accounts with them.. BUt for new asian members, they are still allowed to join!! I'm surprised when i knew that, and i guess all those spammers are back again under a brand new username this name.. Looks like ciao has got to be really stringent about their rules, and should only pay thru good nominations by trusted members.. IF not, judging from what u have said, there are not really any changes in ciao after all.. haha =D

'Though ciao is banning asian members, but it seems that they are only banning users with accounts with them.. BUt for new asian members, they are still allowed to join!!' Really?? Well, hope they eventually get on top of it...it is going downhill...when you look at new reviews, you can't rate really, you just get annoyed and move on, More annoying is when you have genuine reviews and have two ratings and the fake ones have many and will get paid, what's fair in that? I will continue posting on Dooyoo too, seems like a much fairer system. I paste my reviews on Ciao.com too but get the genuine ratings at Dooyoo and Ciao UK...

Yeah, that's why i was quite confused and surprised to see that some mylot members from philippines are allowed to join ciao, when most of their counterparts are already banned.. I wonder what ciao is gonna do next, and i think it's better to be posting your reviews somewhere else, rather than ciao.. It's not worth your effort, and everything in there is quite 'corrupted'.. lol =D

I don't know what to say to be honest. I'm getting flack on the site for rating people honestly, when you see stuff like the review you've quoted above, it's very annoying to see it getting H and VH and even E ratings in some cases. The site's reputation is going down the pan and people just don't seem to care as long as they rate everyone with positive ratings, oh, because they are trying after all and English isn't their language! As I've said so many times, if it's not legible in English, it's not helpful. I wouldn't go to a German or Chinese or Indonesian or other foreign language site and try to write in those languages unless I was fluent. I really do worry that the site might close down one of these days as the number of abuse reports they must get on a daily basis must be astronomical and all of us who try to use the site responsibly will just lose this avenue for review writing (and the extra bit of cash that goes with it). Happy Ciao-ing and happy myLot-ing :)

OOps forgot to answer the main question - banning some countries didn't seem to work at all because many of those banned were getting in through back doors anyway. Now some of the decent writers from the banned countries have been allowed back in but the problem hasn't been solved so I guess the ban wasn't really effective as who is to know which country is the right one to ban as there still seems to be a lot of stuff like you quoted being published every hour on the site!

Hi marina, I heartily agree with you. In fact I had said the same thing in an earlier discussion. The spammers are still very much there, and they have indiscriminately banned certain regions hoping that the site gets cleaned up. But just the other day I saw someone actually u/ling one of my reviews with a little change here and there, knowing fully well that I am not able to log in. I wrote to the ciao team abt it and they did take action because I dont see that member now...Honestly the worst of the spammers are still there..

There's some desperate people indeed using all sorts of translation software to post incomprehensible reviews Did you not ask for your account back, have seen one of the admins here saying they were allowing some genuine users back

That's why I don't bother with them - it's all a big scam. Yonks ago I was a writer at EuLance (Euro-sister to getafreelancer) and every other job there was for 'review writers needed.' Like an idiot I bid on a few of these - and ALWAYS I was sent straight to someone's refer-a-friend page at Ciao. Right there and then I wrote mails to both Ciao and EuLance telling them why their sites were the pits, and not to send me any 'job offers' from (I'm afraid) people in non-English speaking countries. What you see now are posts like, '1000 email addresses wanted' - in other words, they're getting round the system by posting from fake IDs. And so the scam goes on. The only way Ciao will get real, is by going broke over it. My advice to any GENUINE writer is - get outta there! DooYoo recruit from all over - yes, even from the US, although you need paypal I think - and are much fairer. Even Review Stream is better than Ciao.

I was really upset when ciao banned some countries on thier site. Its banning the countries is not the answer. The answer is that they should thighten up thier security regarding plagiarism. Not banning the countries.

Think it takes a lot to check all the reviews from a large user base so banning the countries seemed like a solution and users should be following the rules anyway...the solution didn't work apparently; yes, there's less work to do but still the same old issues

Well, i am one of those from countries that were banned by ciao... i really loved that site before... and i enjoyed writing reviews... and rating those really good ones... it is just bad that this did not last a long time... i still get email notifications that say that my review was rated... but i don't really bother anymore...

yah, agree with you.banning Asian countries did not solve ciao's problem on cheaters and site abusers..If you take a look at ciao now, i think it gets worst than before. i think about 90 percent of the reviews and writers in there are all fake and just reviewing the same craps. its very sickening to see that people are messing this site.. i love this site..i earn money in here and at the same time enjoys writing. i don't know what would be the next action of ciao but lets hope, this site will soon restore its credibility in providing quality product reviews.

I really believe its right. Banning a particular nationality seems to be very unfair. Ciao should have banned specific members who doe spamming and non-sense in the site.
