What is it that makes humans fall so in love with horses?

I'm just really curious to hear everyone's opinion on this.
See, my grandmother was raised with horses and so she's always harbored that love of horses in her heart and I was raised around her hundreds of horse pictures and nic-nacs. I didn't get on my first horse until I was 8, but it was a really magical experience and after that I was hooked.
We've never been able to own horses (unfortunately, but one day we will), but I've always had friends that have them and I help take care of them and ride them. I especially love to just groom them and talk to them.
I'm not sure what it is, but there seems to be something magical about horses that attracts almost everyone.
One of my co-workers lives on a farm and his wife owns horses. He has always sworn up and down that he hates horses, but a couple weeks ago he had his first foal and he said that the experience was magical and he absolutely loves that little foal to death. You should hear the way he brags about it to everyone at work!So what is it that makes YOU love horses so much?

For me as a father it was important, that my daughter until the age of 12 was under big psychic pressure from strong personalities in our family (mother, grandmother, grandfather) and needed some development of her self consciousness. When she started horse riding she first time in her life had an activity for herself. She gained a lot of personality when caring for the riding school's horses, so after 3 years I bought her a Norwegian Fjord mare. Last year she gave birth to a beautiful foal. And recently my daughter announced that she would want to treat handicapped children with her horse. The horse brought her into psychic equilibrium.

Oh wow. That's a beautiful and moving story! It's wonderful that interacting with horses helped her so much, and she's lucky to have a father that was willing to buy her one!
I love how she's planning on helping others. I was part of a not-for-profit program that was trying to do the same thing. Unfortunately, it never got off the ground.

Well ... these horse based treatments of psychic illnesses are getting trendy over here in Germany and horse riders who have an education such as physio-therapist or just nurse/attendant/caretaker can find clients to build a small enterprise on such an activity. Very good races for such purpose are the Norwegian Fjord horses, Haflingers and even Pony horses.

Yeah, I think it's slower to catch on here in America. Most people still haven't heard about it and there aren't many places you can go for it.
We would have been using thoroughbreds, at least to start with, because that's what she owned at the time. They were all adopted from abused families and raised and tamed and they were really good horses.
I've always heard great things about Norwegian Fjords, though. They're beautiful horses. Don't see too many around here, though.
I've decided when I buy a horse I want a Fresian.
