Does organising one's mind and thoughts help?

Many times I am stressed with too many things, all happening at the same time. the other day, I had so many things to attend to , pay bills, go to the bank, buy groceries, help my sister in packing as she is moving to her new house, and on top of it my mother was not keeping well and there were other personal matters that needed attending to. I just wanted to run away from the scene and be elsewhere for sometime. But later I felt that I had to take control of the situation, and sat down and made a mental note of everything that was there...Things that were pressing and other worries like attending to the household work, cooking etc; Finally after I had thought out everything in my mind and organised my thoughts I felt much better. I was actually able to attend to everything in a more methodical manner... What are your views friends? Does it help to organise one's mind and thoughts once in a while when the going gets tough ?

I do believe that if I sit down and write a list of things that I have to do I can tick each off as I achieve it. Then my motivation grows. If I rush around doing too many things then it might make me feel stressed. Moving home is a stressful life event for your sister. Your mother is unwell so that must be worrying you. You want to be supportive to the members of your family but you have enough to deal with. Paying bills is very important so that is worth doing as soon as possible. Good luck.

Hi maximax, thanks a lot for your response . Yes making a list is most essential to see that you have included everything that needs attending to.I know family is important, and if we dont help out when they need you , it really doesnt make sense. Thankfully my mother is much better today, and already giving a helping hand to my sister...I get terribly upset when my mother is unwell, because otherwise, she is a very healthy, active person, and to see her in bed makes me worried...

It helps me all the time. It is best for me to have some quiet time when I first get up in the morning. I then look at the day and ask God what I should do first. Sometimes a make a written list and other times I do a mental list. I find that when I lay my burdens on God (my list), He helps me either get rid of what I don't need to do or to do what I thought I could not. I hope you have some better more quiet days in the future!

Hi, Thank you so much for the response. I too feel that way when I wake up in the mornings esp when I know that I have a busy day ahead. As you say making a list of all your intended activities is very helpful. I have noticed, at least in my case that I tend to put off the most tricky situations and tackle the easier one's first. But by prioritising you tend to deal with the most important jobs first hand and so on...

Hi Kiran! You appear to have did the right thing in the given situation. Like you, when I need to accomplish many tasks, I priortise those tasks and try to handle those tasks one by one. I know it is not possible to execute all tasks simultaneously. Too many tasks certainly makes us feel tense. I try to note down my tasks and set an alarm in my mobile for the same. I do not relax till such time, I finish my tasks. It is said - 'Action cures fears'. Till such time we go and attend to tasks, everything looks difficult, but the moment we are into it, things become smoother.

So our conclusion (by both of us) is - we should prioritize and start acting upon a task, keeping aside our fears.

Hi deepak, Thanks for your views !I like that saying Action cures fears- it is so true, once you start acting upon your tasks it becomes smooth sailing and takes the burden off your mind.I guess the very act of organising and prioritising somehow makes it seem easier right?

i think one can train the mind to be in a particular way. that is possible. thoughts come and go. but one can deliberately pick a thought and spend some valuable time on it, if one thinks that this particular thought can improve one's personality. generally most of us have a tendency to dwell much time on things we do not require. mind can be trained to spend time on thoughts that help find an opportunity or a good deed. positive thoughts reduce high blood pressure, tensions and anxiety. when one is at ease, will be free from disease. when one is at ease, all that happens around is just happiness and it starts to overflow and one has enough to share it with all around you.

Hi, Thanks a lot for your response. You are so right in what you say. the more positive one's attitude is happier one feels. It helps us all round. But most of us tend to dwell on things that matter to us and are there in our inner most thoughts even if they seem trivial to others. It takes a lot of self control to keep them at bay and look at the practical side of things...

Yes that does make sense, one cant go on working all the time. I think we can accomplish more by taking a break and diverting our mind to some other lighter activity and resting..

U can't do much in 24 hours,,the choice is urs,,agree or not,,,, a wise man taught me when I was 20 years,,do take a rest after 4 hours ,, if u work for 8 hours,, he said it will be easier to accomplish 9 hours of work( just in case )

It helps me all the time - if I don't have anything organized or thought out, I just end up either wasting the day thinking about what needs to be done and end up not getting anything done OR forget about what needs to be done and do something that can or should be done early. So having an organize brain and working area is definitely good for me. For some people - they're not good with organization. I don't really know how that works, but hey, it works for them!

Hi khayshenz, Thanks a lot for your response. Yes it does help you to achieve things faster and finish all that you intended to do if you organise things accordingly. There are some people who do things haphazardly , but as you say , as long as they are happy what does it matter ? have a great day and happy mylotting
