How long have you been writing, and what was your motivation to do so?

I have always loved working with language, have always loved reading. Those loves are why I started expressing myself in writing. I began keeping a diary at the age of 12. Now in my fifties, I have been writing ever since the age of 12. How long have you been writing and what motivated you to do so? Karen

I have always loved to read and as a teenager one of my dreams was to write a book one day. I would try and write poetry or song lyrics but never thought it was good. As you go thru life the road will take detours and before you know it your in your 40's or 50's and you feel you have nothing to show for all those years. My turning point for me was surviving 9/11. That is when I realized I need to do something with my life because you never know when your time on this earth will be over. I started by writing my story in surviving 9/11 and then from that I started writing poetry again. Many were published online and one was published in a book of poetry with many other poets. I'm now in middle of writing a book that I hope to one day get published. Take care and have a great weekend!

Wow, what a tragic event that was. It had a profound effect on so many. For you, it changed how you look at life! I do believe that whatever our age, it is never too late to shift gears, learn a new thing, or begin a new career. Kudos to you, and best of wished on your continued writing. Thank you so much for sharing this moving story. Karen

You discussion got me to thinking. I think, I have been writing since forever. . Just kidding.. I only realized that I love writing when I decided to go for it seriously. My motivation came from, most definitely, the Palgrave's book of poetry which I used to carry with me every where. I am not much for a good writer though. But I love it just for the sake of it. Do you write elsewhere as well?

I have been writing for wo 20 years. I used to write little short stories for my second grade class and read them to them. It was fun, then I started writing poetry and working on a few short stories again and a book. I love writing whatever pops into my head I write.

A teacher - I belong to taeching family, including my In-law's side.
Hello my friend Karen Ji, So nice of you for "teaching" profession. It is simply great, when someone comes out in crowed and bows in front of me and says I was her teacher, the feeling is great. It seems, everything has been achieved by me. Such feelings could never be compared with money. But now-a-days it is loosing its charm, because it is becoming profession. May God bless You and have a greatr time.[em]thumbup

And hello to you my friend : ) I admire those who teach. What a wonderful profession. I hope you continue to write, and would love to see your poetry if it is somewhere online. You say you love to read. I think most of us who write also love to read. They seem to go together. Thank you for responding and have a beautiful day. Karen

Hi Karen....I also enjoy reading. I read just about any type of book except horror or science fiction. I believe you can get so engrossed in a book and the story you are reading that you can actually picture yourself crawling inside that book and becoming a part of it. As far as writing....I never did much of it until a few months ago becasue I guess I just never took the time to try and put my thoughts and feelings down on paper. Now that I have the time to do so I never shut up...lol flutterby

I entirely know what you mean when you talk about becoming so engrossed in a book you can picture yourself right there in the story. That is why I hate to see a good book end! Keep writing! Karen

I also find it extremely helpful to write downn my thoughts and feelings. It is a good way to sort them out. Whatever we write and keep, we can go back to through the years whenever we wish. Happy writing! Karen

I've been writing since I was eleven. I've loved books since I was four. Writing is for my sanity, it's the artform I'm best at. It's also the truest means of expression available to me. It also keeps my mind sharp and active. My motivation? It's my life. I don't need much better motivation than that. I've been writing for...oh, seven years now. In just six months, I'll have been writing for eight. ...I never thought of that before. In 2012 I'll have been writing for a decade. Wow.

I am not much of a writer, my thoughts are always getting ahead of my writings. this causes me to stumble around and fall all over my words.

I LOVE WRITING,when i'm in middle school after the age of 12,i wrote my first novel and the second and so on.why?Because the imagine in my mind drive me to write. And when i was 15 in high school,i began to write poem.Perhaps the poem was not very perfect, but they express my emotion with my mom and the unrequited love for a boy. That feeling force me to write.

I started writing poetry when I was 8. I happened to stumble across an activity in my favorite magazine, Zoobooks (I was an animal freak), that challenged the reader to write a poem about Polar Bears. So I did. "Polar bears hunt in water // and when they find their prey // they go on land so that they can // have a very happy day, hey!". It makes me giggle every time I think about it now, but I was so very proud of it back then and my mother even called my grandparents to brag. xD As for fiction writing, I guess I've been doing some form of that on and off since I learned how to write. I have one of my very first stories from when I was 3 about a baby toad that didn't listen to his parents. I don't know where it is now, but it's in safe storage (meaning I won't find it for another 50 years, I'm sure). So yeah. I don't know why I started writing, but I've always really enjoyed it and I've been at it seriously now for about 6 years I think. Though I've been doing it for fun for much longer than that. ^_^

I love how you got started. I think the book about the toad would be a nice children's book. Most writers seem to have been doing it in some form since childhood. Perhaps it's a desire or talent with which we a born. Karen
