Do you burn or tan when ever you are out and do you watch not to be out to long?

I have uneven pigmentation, so I both tan and burn, in different spots.
Last year, I developed a sensitivity to the sun and would get itchy red welts on my skin...
had to take antihistamines to get the itch under control.
The first really warm day in April this year, it happened again.
But I've been keeping out of the sun and it hasn't recurred.
Hope it doesn't return again, either.

Is it possible that you are taking a medication that has made you photosensitive.

Well, that's what I thought. I was taking Celebrex last year and thought it was the culprit so stopped taking it, but still got the reaction for the rest of the summer, and then the one instance (so far) this year.

I must have some Italian in me somewhere (the Welsh that was descended from one of those Roman soldiers fleeing the Saxons) so I tan very slowly and I burn just a little that turns into a tan. I do not use any of the SPH it does not work on me as I do not burn that quickly. But once I get a tan it fades very slowly. And the only time I look healthy is in summer. In winter I look like a pale ghost or rather a red ghost as i have a naturally pink complexion, but my nose gets red and I look like I have been drinking.

I am in and out a lot. I have a slight burn on one arm right now and am starting to peel. Usually I just tan. I use suntan lotion or sunscreen, but not as regularly as I should.

Burn peel.....burn peel.....burn peel.....and my legs never get any color...I have resigned myself to the fake tan lotion....or they would scare even the birds off! I am not out an awful lot.....this summer I will be more then I have for years as we have a place by the lake now...but I'll put on sun screen....

I burn easily too and it makes for a very ouchy day or two afterwards. Luckily we have aloe at hand and burn relief creme just in case. We don't go out too much though, so we're not concerned with sunburn that often. However, I know I'd definitely be wearing some sun block if we were to outside for more than say an hour.

I one time got a lotion that had aloe in it. It was supposed to be an aloe vera lotion, but it didn't work the way it should have. Gels are so much better. That and the Aloe Vera Plant directly.

I go beyond a burn, I fry. My skin is very fair. My legs are always so white so it's funny looking to wear shorts. Eventually when it gets real hot, I'll wear them anyway. As a kid we didn't have a/c. When I was a teen, my parents got one of the first ones in the neighborhood. I was outside all the time trying to keep cool before the a/c. Too much sun and I would blister. As a result, I've had lots of skin cancer. Surgeries all over my face, chest. arms, back and legs. It did slow down once I got into my 50's and quit being out in the sun so much. So I don't recommend sun for anyone for long periods.

I lot of the times I forget to put on sunscreen and I get sunburnt even when I dont stay in the sun for long. It kind of sucks when I apply suncreen before I go out and then not being in the sun for a few hours after that and the suncreen wears out. I think the length of time my sunscreen offers protection for is around 4 hours and is 30+ which means that by the time I do go into the sun then I'd have to reapply more or reapply when im still out.

Due to my asian skin, i could say i do not burn that easily, i do get sunburns but not that much and that is if i really stay too long out in the sun..but most of the time i do not get it and would improve my complexion better and turn the skin a bit pink-brown complexion:))

Yes I do burn and quite badly too. Even when I am out, even of only for five minutes or so, if I make the mistake of having no sun protection on, I tend to react very badly, especially on my neck, nose and forearms. I am always trying to get a tan too as my skin is more pale than I'd like it to be, but I have to wear a 50+ suncream factor to make sure I don't do myself any damage!

CD-
I'm extremely fair skin and tend to burn when I'm out in the sun with no protection. It doesn't even turn into a tan, it simply blisters and I go back to being white after a time of the red. My husband just recently read our lotion that we have to use for our skin (doctor precribed) that apparently contains an ingredient that makes you burn more, and it recommends not going into direct sunlight. I was like, wow. So now I've got to change my SPF up and start wearing cover-ups!
I do recall my worst sunburn experience though. I was in third grade and my parents had taken me and some friends to Devils Lake in Wisconsin. We played all weekend in the water not carring about anything, typical kids. I came home with horrible sunburn to the point I couldn't move. I blistered and had to spend a week in bed with special cream. My worst experience.

Lol i have a tanned color already , i basically come in brown categories so here we try to be away from sun as much as possible .I also don't like to go out in sun because its UV rays effect your skin badly even if you don't notice it .

If I have been in the sun all year, and then I spend the whole day out without any SPF, I will get burnt something fierce. I try to gradually tan during the spring and summer, this way I don't get scorched. If I am going to be out for very long, and especially if I am going to be around water, I will put on some SPF 15 and take it along with me. That way if I need to reapply after a couple of hours, I can.
I found this discussion to be pretty interesting crazydaisy! Thanks for starting it and nice screenname by the way. :)

I always get sunburn, because I go out with my friends a lot. I once went to an airshow with a few of my buddies. We put on minimal amounts of lotion, but had to stand in the blazing sun for over 6 hours. Naturally, all of woke up feeling roasted the next day. My burn was so bad that the skin on my neck was peeling off. I never really watch the time I am outside for, but I do get a bit cautious if I am constantly in the sun for the whole day.
Great discussion by the way.

I understand what you are talking about. One day I went to a lake and I spent the whole day there, I came back as red as a lobster! I didn't even realize I was as red as I was. Oh well, my friends have always said I could use a little color. Hahahaha. I certainly did get some that day, that's for sure.

My mother is the same way. She has very pale skin that burns quite easily. Fortunately, I have a lot of my dad's genes and therefore tan very well. That's not to say I don't burn either. The other day I was out for about an hour. I must have forgotten to apply more sun screen because I woke up the next morning to a cherry colored stomach.
It is true that once you have built up a tan you are less likely to burn. That does not mean that you are less likely to get skin cancer though, so be careful. The more times you burn, the more at risk you are of getting skin cancer. So i would recommend not fully listening to your friends. If you are going to go out into the sun, put on a good amount of sunscreen of no less than 30 spf. That way you will be protected and will have a chance to absorb a little bit of sun. Good luck. Don't be afraid to get out there and enjoy the beautiful weather.
