In the sentence "And in each rendition of the new economy, the best leaders have adhered to certain basic principles, with rigor and discipline.", I know "rendition "means" the performance of a piece of music", but how can it be used this way?

it's using figurative speech. trying to paint a picture in your mind,so as you would picture it as applying to music in the same way. rendition in this sense is "the new form of an old piece",a re-write.
