People have always married for the wrong reasons. I don't mean everyone, but even when I was younger in my 20's I had friends that seemed to be getting married just so they could have that big ceremony or because they were afraid they would be alone and not get married if they did not get married by a certain age, or because they thought that someone could take good care of them financially, I had one friend who got married just to get away from her parents. All of those people got divorced within 7 years, and most of them are now married to the right people.

When I saw the show Bridezillas...I had to wonder myself...But in all seriousness, yeah, it does seem like marriage is more trivial nowadays. But to each their own, I say. If they want to get married for the wrong reasons, then that's their problem. It just makes the marriages that are true and full of love, all the more precious.

I agree, it seems like a lot of people are committing to one & other without thinking of the consequences, and without really being in love & being ready for it. One thing I see a lot of the time is a couple having a child out of wedlock, and so they decide to make it "legitimate" by getting married, despite the fact that they might not really be in love with one and other. It's quite sad!
