Due to the economy I had to take a paycut at my main full time job and that led me to take on a part time job on the weekends to make up the difference. The problem is that now I work every day of the week. I feel like I do not have a life and defintely do not have a work-life balance. Do you feel that you have an adequate work-life balance?

My previous job was a support maintenance technician in an electronics company here in the Philippines. I used to spend all the days of the week inside the premises of the company. 12 hours each day. During weekdays, I see to it that my production line is running smoothly and on weekends, I perform maintenance of my machines. It was so hard, the good thing about it is that the pay was good. My only rest is on holidays that is Christmas, New Year, All Saint's and Independence day. 4 days out of 356. I quit the job after a year, I was so happy.

I will say that currently, I'm working on a full-time, 5-days work, and I'm quite happy with it. I did tried before working 7 days a week for around 2 months, when I was younger. It was around 8 years back. Besides having a temporary full-time work (5 days week), I had also taken up a temporary part-time job as a weekend promoter (working time is from 12noon to 8pm). So, for around 2 months, I worked everyday, except for 1 Saturday in between which I choose not to work, as the work location is quite far away. Well, it's certainly tiring, but as at that time, I had no commitments, it was still fine with me.

Well, that was in the past, when I'm younger. Now, if I had to work 6 - 7 days a week, I will probably not make it... It's too much too tiring for me. In addition, I do have family commitments now, and my family will probably nag at me.

Luckily for me I do not work. I am a housewife.Which think I am very happy about. No grumbling whatsoever. But my husband works every day there is no such thing as a Saturday or a Sunday.I feel really sorry for him.Its not something that has cropped after the recession its always been like this.He is one guy who will not say no when his boss wants him to do anything as a result he has no time for himself or for the family. Now age is catching up and this toll is telling upon his health. It really worries me alot. Some employers are so heartless. They just think that we are machines. They don't even reward you financially for that extra work you are doing. My husband is the main person here and he knows very well how much of profit he is roping in for the company. I am only hoping and praying God helps us through this crisis. We need the money. That's the reason we are putting up with it.Thank you for this discussion you helped me to pour out my feelings.

That is awful for him to have to work like that for so long. His health should come first though. too much stress is not a good thing. It is a glorius Sunday here and we are just finishing up breakfast and all I can think about is that at 3pm I have to go to my second job. I only work 4 hours on Sundays but it just stops me from planning anything major. I did get to sleep late today and that was just wonderful. It's the only day of the week I can do that.

I haven't had to work Saturdays or Sundays in awhile on my main fulltime job. I however pick up odd nannying/babysitting jobs to make ends meet. I also sell stuff online at times to make ends meet as well. Making low wages in the world today with the debt that is collected over time it takes awhile to pay everything off. At the rate the world is going I personally will never live a happy and prosperous life.

In our country, we hardly have offs on Saturday. Most of us are working here on Saturday. Even, those who were having offs on Saturday earlier, due to recession, since last year they also are asked to come on Saturday too. Just because of the fear of loosing job, they are bound to obey their company's order. I have a small IT company and we have offs only on Sunday. Actually for 5 days we are doing our clients work, and on Saturday, we are providing training to our employees to improve their technical skills and project related inquiries.

Sometimes I work sundays but it depend of the demand of my job but right now I work most of the saturdays. But I am hoping that this will be removed if our situation will be good. I want to have a 2 day off since this will help me regain my energy to face a new week.

I would rather only work 1 day over the weekend too. I just dont have the time to do grocery shopping, laundry, errands, etc. - or even to relax and enjoy the pool in my community!

I work a lot. This drives me nuts. I've been trying to take the occasional evening off, which has been nice - it really helps.

Then look for another another 9 to 5 job that pays you the money you think you deserve. Lots of people work seven days a week. In fact. lots of children work since the age of 5 seven days a week, without health insurance, contract, or even clean facilities. I work seven days a week. some weeks I dont works. sometimes i work 18 hours a day. if life is not balancing out for you, change your lifestyle, change your job, and everything else you dont like.

I do not currently work weekends. I am a teacher. Although sometimes I do have to take work home with me on the weekends - not sure if that counts or not, haha. I have taken over an extra teaching position though. It's an after school program. Once the school year is over it'll have been about 3 months that I've done this. I'm now working extra hours in the late afternoon/early evening and getting home much later than I use to be. That on top of the fact that I'm planning my wedding has me really stressed out right now! By the time I get home, make dinner, and exercise - I'm lucky if I have 2 hours to myself before bed. And a lot of times in those 2 hours I have work to get done. The weekends are typically filled with wedding planning. So right now life is crazy. I can't really say it's the economy though. I'm doing this to earn some extra money to help me out when I'm not teaching this summer.

I don't have enough money every month but I still can hold on to it. Maybe because I am single and don't have much responsibilities, like children. I sometimes hate money for making my life bad. Almost all that we need in our living involve money. I feel sorry for you not having the time to rest since you work everyday. I hope you can find a better way to earn extra money.

Well I found this site a few days ago and I really like it. Hopefully it will make me something so I can cut back to one day over the weekend. Thanks for the comment. and you are right - it's so much easier when you are single. My kids dont understand about cutting back and not spending so much right now.

hi, trvlarrngr.maybe you are right in your country, people in such a fu*king econmy condition. but let talk the same thing beyond the present economy condition. someone maybe work at weekend, maybe out of responsibility, maybe out of the deadline, maybe for a longtime vacation. and last year, i work day and night for my experiments, and now i can lead a simple life. talking with my friends, surfing in the net. write my blog, post comments in here. wish you better, god bless!

Ya, you're right on that. Due to the economy downturn and recession, many people have started to look for more opprtunities to work and earn some extra money to cover the reduced earning. However, i think that we should really have work-life balance. Merely working all the days in a week without a day of break will be surely tiring, although this does earn that person some more money. For me, i'll prefer to work for five days (haha, still the same living, regardless of what happen outside) and rest during weekends. I can accept part time jobs but i'll prefer to do it on weekdays and the duration should not be too long so that it won't affect my current full time job. The job that i can think of having these features and suits me is, to be a tutor or home tutor. The time is more flexible and the working hours are not too long. Just a sharing of my thought.

Hello, I pretty much work everyday, yes including Saturday and Sunday, I don't under andy pressure because my job is what I love to do and that is to design candles, so when I'm working I also have fun and feel relaxed, in between designing candles, i jump online and chat with few friends here and there, the only reason I'm a able to do that is because on the weekends I work from home, and during the week I work outside of the home. Happy my Lotting!
