There is this group of Christians in India, who still believe a diseased man can be cured only with the faith on god and they will not go to doctors for a cure.I am not certain about the name.It goes something like "benthagose".
In your view, are they good Christians,as they believe in god or they are ignorant.

their are the pentacoastal christians. they have so many restrictions imposed on their followers. sometimes they are nuisance, if their church happens to in anywhere near 4-5kms radius. they make so much noise during their prayer, many places people have filed complain with the police and courts.
god is not in the business of curing diseases. he has given us something called brain to use it for our own welfare. we have so far identified and manufactured medicines that help us tide over illness and diseases. there are few symptoms which do not require any medicine, i agree on that. if you have a mild head ache, drink a glass of water, lie down for sometimes. the headache disappears.
they are at the most foolish and ignorant of the fact that what affects body needs to be treated accordingly.

There are still people who can be given a sugar pill and be cured of simple illnesses. There were times during the war when they ran out of morphine and they gave the soldiers sugar pills and told them that they were morphine and it worked on most of them. So do not underestimate what the mind can do.
It is the mind that is curing these people not G'd. G'd did give us the power to cure ourselves by giving our bodies certain hormones that can be released sometimes at will. It does not work all the time, but it can work.
The adults are free to do as they will, but they do not have the right to subject the children to the absence of medical help in the case of severe illness.

Not only in India, from what I come across here in Mylot, there are believers all over the world who believe that God can cure any illness and modern medical intervention is not required. They continue with their beliefs often at the cost of the lives of their near and dear ones. I believe they are ignorant and misuse the powers of God. God gave man brain to develop himself and society and medical science is an integral part of it. Also many medicines have their roots in herbal compositions and taken from nature (again provided by God) so they are actually ignoring God's gift to man.

I am from India and I have not heard of any such group and I am surprised and happy to read this discussion as I have learned something. I do not believe that our illnesses can be cured without the proper medications, but I have a friend who is a Doctor, on his presciption he has the following words on the top;
"I treat, He cures."
When I asked him what does the word "He" means, he told that "He" refers to God. I was impressed with him and I suppose that doctors treat only and not cure therwise why all the patients are cured with a particular medicine?

I am glad, you happen to learn something new here.Doctors are humble to say like that.In fact, they try to diagnose the patients rightly with the complained symptoms and provide prescriptions. But curing needs mental strength too in some serious cases. So,a doctor can limit himself with the treatment and god alone take care of the rest.Cheers!

I have interacted with those kinds of people in Kerala, they are called Pentacost A particular group of Pentacost do this. One of my class mates was pentacost and she had never gone to hospital instead they go to their priest and he will pray to god to get rid fo the disease.
I think it is carazy! I am sorry. If they have a sore throat, they won't go to doctor, but they use natural cureness methods like garggling salt water and drinking pepper coffee (might not be hard core believers).

For minor ailments we can take some herbal medicines or natural remedies and get cured. But even for serious diseases, they deny the medical support and that really matters. Why should they refuse medicines alone, while they use all other things invented by us?

let us not be judgmental about this people and their beliefs, this group of people might have a strong faith to god...actually believing that god can cure you from disease is a very important role, this according to some scientific researches.

Yes!Faith on god gives you mental strength. But what is the use of just faith,if you don't take medicines? It is like just wishing to go to a place but not making arrangements for tickets. One has to take steps of his own.I think,God has given that freedom for mankind.Cheers!

This Certainly an obvious Case Of Misunderstanding The Real message Of God and Religions, I'm a Muslim and I know That The Teachings of The Prophet Muhammad PBUH recommend Every Muslim To Seek Medication For Every disease, and It is a Matter of Fact That God Can Cure any disease, But we must Do Our part.
in a Hadith narrated by Imam Ahmed in which Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, said, "Allah did not send down a disease except that He sent a cure for it, whether people know it or not."
We Must do Our Part, and We Should Learn The True Message Of Our Religions, and Not to be Deceived By Wishful Thinking and Blind Faith.
Best Regards

Also There were several occasions when the Prophet visited the sick, and after inquiring about the ailments advised to take the medicine prescribed from experienced physicians. On several occasions he advised the sick to approach Harith bin Kalda, a well-known Jewish physician of Thaqif (a place near Madinah, Saudi Arabia where the Prophet resided at the time). On one particular occasion the Prophet visited Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas who had suffered a heart attack. When the Prophet placed his hand on the chest of Sa'd he felt great relief, but the Prophet cautioned him and said, "You've had a heart attack and therefore should consult Harith Bin Kalda, who is the expert physician." It is these and many other similar occasions that greatly changed the attitude of the Arabs towards diseases. Arabs, during the pre-Islamic period, depended mainly on invoking supernatural aid or different deities for the treatment of disease.

Hmm... not being religious myself I dont belive that anything can be cured just by beliving something. medicines are there for a reason but if they want to belive that then who are we to stop them or criticise... It may just be that they end up in more pain than really nessacary... =(
