We have steak once a week, in fact tonight is steak night at our house. We cook out a great deal and have found over the years that we would rather cook a good steak at home than go out for one (cost a lot less, and well is less stressful as well) I told my husband last night that I think we should back off and maybe have it every other week, as it is getting to where it is not "special" anymore. He said we do not need steak to be special. I think he just has a thing for red meat.... so tonight we are having steak, grilled veggies, and grilled shrimp. With a salad and a nice bottle of wine. How about you..

I only know 2 people who can cook a steak that tastes great to me, and so if I am going to have steak they are going to be the ones that cook it. I would rather have a meal at a resturant that I cannot make successfully at home and so I do not order steak when we eat out. Instead I wait until my Aunt or brother in law feels like cooking. You dinner sounds great. Surf and turf is my favorite (I love sea food more than any other food)

See I am with you on that. I love my steak, if I do not say so myself, I can make a mean steak. I marinate them overnight and cook them slow... they are so yummy.. Like you if I am going to eat at a restaurant I want it to be something I would not normally cook for myself and as I have a wide range of things I can cook and cook well (sorry to brag so much but it is one of those skills that I have that I am proud of) So if we go out to eat, I want it to be something that I can not cook, or it is so I can have a break from the kitchen myself.

I think that the ability to cook a good meal is something to be proud of and even brag about from time to time. To me it is one of those things that is important in taking care of your family and is vital.

I love a big steak, cholesterol filled (I love the fat). I make it on a cast iron skillet so I donĀ“t feel so guilty over fat. I used to make it once a week when my husband was alive but now I make it about once a month. I like it with a baked potato and some veggies (lettuce, endives, avocado and celery are wonderful for it)

To be honest meandmy3 I can't even remember the last time I had steak it has been a while! My family and I have cut down a lot on our meat intake! When we do eat mest it is usually pork or chicken. Especially with summer around the corner we will be eating a lot of lighter stuff like fish, salad, etc. For some reason in the summer I'm no where near as hungry as I am in the winter, BUT with me being pregnant all summer that could change too!

You can never go wrong with fish in the summer!

In the summer I prefer lighter items on my menu as well. I just brought this up to my husband and asked him if we could start getting more fish etc as something that heavy and filling was well not what I like for the warm months.

We eat steak about one a week.I do make it at home when I find a really nice one at the supermarket, but it also fairly pricey as we like good cuts of meat. And we do eat out, an have it out there also, so it depnds on our schedules. I am a meat lover and could not go without it. And my health is till great as I have reduced the carb content of my diet and eat more natural foods veggies.

I am with you on the good cuts of meat. As I said we spoil ourselves and eat good meat all the time, we get all of our meat from a meat shop, or butcher shop instead of the food store. It is so much better and well I even think we get better prices.

I am going to try that I think ... getting meat from a meat shop or butcher as opposed to the grocery store and see if I can taste the difference!

If my husband had his way we would eat steak every night of the week. I try to throw in chicken or turkey every week. Not so much fish because we can't buy any really good fish around where I live. Frozen fish just doesn't do it for me! We like flank steak and use Terriyake Sauce on it, NY Strip steaks with a seasoning. Chicken we terriyaki also. Red meat is fine, eat lean red meat, cut the fat off before you cook it that way it isn't cooking in the fat - we only grill meat outside - I don't do it inside at all. I would rather have a ham sandwich for dinner than to eat a steak cooked on the stove top.

I think our husbands must be related, He would eat red meat every night of his life. Me on the other hand can not handle that much red meat. I am lucky to leave in the southern states and can get fish at great prices.

That would turn me off as well. I am so glad that we can get some great fresh fish and seafood. I could not survive.

I live in the south also, but TN is 'land-locked' so we don't get fresh fish...everyhthing's pre-frozen. I bought fish at Food City one time and when it thawed it was rotten. That turns me off. After that when I wanted fish I told the girl at the counter that I wanted to smell it - she looked at me like I had three heads..but it worked. That's why the few times we go out to dinner I like to order fish just for something different. Restaurants get fresh fish, just not supermarkets! What state are you in?

I think I have steak at least two times a week, but I am Australian so I love my steak. I never cook it with oil, always on a grill as it keeps the flavour in. But I use Worcestershire on my steaks, and any other marinades I make. I rarely dine out because I'm so passionate about cooking that I just buy the food and make it myself, it's cheaper too though and saves me money.

I am with you on not dinning out, it is just too expensive for us. as we also have to pay 15.00 an hour for a sitter. By the time we go to eat and pay the sitter we have spent in excess of 150.00 on average, sometimes much more.

One reason, other than money, we don't go out to eat - restaurants are not right around the corner where we live. If it's been a day spent outside in the yard then I usually don't have the energy to shower, change, etc...becaue I'm always starving!! My husband can cook a steak, or chicken, better than most places can!

I get the craving every now and again but not often. I'll usually have a cheap piece of meat in the freezer that I take out, cover with onions and garlic, add a little water and Lea & Perrins then seal it up in aluminum foil. 450 degrees for 45 minutes, add a few potato slices and carrots with bell peppers and water if needed then reduce the temp to 350 for the next hour. This meat comes out melt-in-your-mouth tender and juicy and satisfies my craving! I rarely go out for dinner anymore, especially since the hospital last weekend made me aware of how we're killing ourselves with salt!

Hello there dear mylothian. I am 21 years old (for another few months anyway) and i stay from time to time with my girlfriend at her grandmother's place, as her grandma travels a lot so we take the opportunity to spend more time together. We don't know a many lot of dishes to cook, as we are still learning and experiencing, but stake with vegetables or fried potatoes is a good course that we make from time to time. We usually make pork as it is cheaper than beef. Eating out ? Well we did eat stakes a few times at a restaurant last year when we were in Greece at the seaside.

We love a good steak. Unfortunately we have not been able to get any good deals on them lately. When I come across good deals I try to stock up on them. Nothing beats a good ribeye with a baked potato (either sweet or regular) and a great salad! Making my mouth water thinking about it. We don't eat out as much as we use to because it is so much cheaper to have the same meals at home. I think all of us here in this house have a thing for red meat! LOL! Now I am craving a steak!

We eat steak once every month ot two. We will probably be eating steak tomorrow because it is in the refridgerator and we haven't cooked it yet! I grew up eating steak at least once a week, so, to me, steak was always a normal meal. As I have grown, though, I have eaten it less and less. It is my favorite meal, but one that I just don't always feel like cooking. I, like you, prefer to cook my own steak rather than go out to eat one. I have yet to find a restaraunt that understands how "Medium-well" steak is supposed to be cooked!

Medium well is one of those that is often misunderstood and can be hard to cook. Steak, to me, is one of those foods that is better if you prepare it for yourself. You know what you like, and you know just how well or rare you prefer it and you can get it that way every time. You do not get that guarantee when eating out and paying $50.00 for the meal

Sometimes if I have extra budget for it and the salary was there. Its nice to cook good dish at home than ordering outside. I'm sure all of you in the family well be contented to eat more than to order. You can save it and eat much.

I would much rather cook steak at home. We do it about once a week maybe even more. I like my steak extremely rare and most resturants won't cook it like that probably because of food safety standards. It's cheaper to cook just about anything at home and you have complete control over what you are eating.

I agree that it is more than likely food safety issues as to why they can not or will not cook it at that temperature. I like mine with a touch of red, not bleeding so to speak so Medium Rare. I also think that if you have to put steak sauce on your steak it is over cooked.
