How strong is your coffee?

I have recently discovered the benefits of coffee when I am trying to stay awake! I never used to be a fan before but it really does help when I am feeling drowsy but I need to get work done! I was jsut wondering what the strongest coffee anyone has ever had was? I tend to put 1 and a half teaspoons of coffee into one regular sized cup, how about you guys?

I use espresso, not coffee. It's very strong and I use two coffee scoops for 5 cups of drip-type coffee--not as strong as if I'd use an espresso machine but stronger than regular drip coffee. I love the flavor more than the strength. Too bad caffeine doesn't have much effect on me, I'd have plenty of energy!!

That does sound strong. I am surprised caffeine does not affect you? Has it always been that way?

Caffeine has never bothered me and it has always taken a large amount of sedative to put me under, or novacaine to numb my teeth. I'm just a resistant person!

Yes that is definitely resistant! Have a great day.

If I make coffee it is the usual teaspoon and a half, but, if I get a Latte from Maxie Java I get the larger size and extra shot. That would be three then. And I usually only have a couple of cups of coffee or I get too jittery. All things in moderation. If it is too strong it isn't as enjoyable.

I remember that when I worked. When the true low came it was a bummer.

I know what you mean about having too much. Whilst the effects of the caffeine last it is great, but when they start to wear off it is not very nice.

It sounds to me as if you use instant, so I cannot compare. I use three measures, heaped of coffee grounds to a twelve "cup" drip coffee maker. It does not make twelve 8 oz cups more like five ounce or six ounce cups. Most people consider that to be on the strong side.

Hi there, yes I do use instant so I suppose it is not simple to make a straightforward comparison. Thanks for the response though, it does sound like you like your coffee strong!.

I don't make it that often, but I use about a tablespoon per cup or maybe slightly less. I am not a great judge of coffee since I don't drink it very often, but nobody has ever complained about my coffee, and they always drink it up, so it must not be bad.

I think one tablepsoon per cup is quite alot, but then I suppose it depends on the size of the cup. Thanks for the response.

I don't like strong coffee because I get palpitations. I prefer a little less than half a teaspoon of coffee on a regular cup. I think that's just enough for what I need. Also, coffee is a diuretic - it makes people pee more than they should and leave them dehydrates; so I'd rather not have too much or too strong :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Yes I know what you mean about it making you pee! That's probably one of the most annoying things about it for me!

We like our coffee strong enough to have a taste, but not so strong that the caffeine affects us. I have a problem with heartburn, so I have problems with coffee that's really strong. Fortunately my husband knows how to make coffee that tastes strong, without being too strong, or bitter.

That sounds like quite an interesting challenge. You are lucky that your husband is able to get it right - I expect it is also dependent on which coffee brand/type that you have. I have recently started drinking coffee but to be honest it is because I do need to feel the caffeine effect! Thanks for the response.

I have one coffee in the morning to wake me up and I find it helps with my memory not that I'm losing my memory but somehow it just helps. I just use instant and put a heaped teaspoon in but it depends on the coffee sometimes that isn't strong enough and I put more so maybe for some I put 2. Your body does get used to it though and you might start to need to drink more or make it stronger so be careful. Espresso is really nice even though it's really strong I can't drink more than an espresso cup though.

Yes I am finding that it helps with my concentration levels too! I think if one is becoming resistant to its effects its probably a good idea not to have any for a while, and then go back to it. Thanks for the response!

I mentioned in another post that drinking coffee regularly affects the "wakefulness effect" of the caffeine in the coffee. If you drink it occasionally, it will help you keep awake better than if you have it every day. I like my coffee very strong but tame the bitterness with raw sugar and half & half. No instant coffee for me unless in dire straits!

Yes I agree that we probably develop a tolerance to it if we are consuming it all the time. Thanks for the response.
