How to Repel Bees?

For some reason this year, bees have decided they really like our porch to buzz and fly around. I think they are mostly wasps/yellow jackets - though we also have one very giant black carpenter bee that seems to like to buzz around. We have searched all over our entire house and property and cannot find a nest anywhere.
Anyone have any ideas for how to keep these bees away from our porch? The kids and I love to play out there but the bees are making it tricky since they are scared by them and the last thing any of us want is to be stung. I have read online all sorts of strange things, from making a fake nest and hanging it to different concoctions of spices, oils, and chemicals.
If you've used anything that really works to keep bees away I would love to hear it!

Oh I hate anything that can fly and sting me, I'd be hold up in the house until an exterminator came and took care of it.

I thought about hiring someone...but would rather not if I don't have to! I hate anything flying and stinging too :)

In my area, we just burn the bees. I know it sound cruel but that was one of the method my village used to get rid of bees in their garden. If you don't want to kill the bees, maybe you can just let the smoke from the fire towards their nest. I don't know if it works or not..But like scientists said 'trial and error'..(hmmm is that right?).. Anyway, be careful with fire okay.

Trial and error seems to be what I might have to do. If I knew where the nest was it would be a lot easier to really get rid of them :)
