So I will be 28 weeks pregnant tomorrow, with my first child. I have a couple friends who are pregnant and further along than I am, and they have been feeling braxton hicks contractions for a while now. Where as I have yet to feel them, or dont think I do anyways. They all say they are painful, and its like your belly hardens up. Well I havent been experiencing that at all!...Should I be concerned or am I lucky? I go to my OB regularly and my Ob says the baby is fine and I have a healthy pregnancy. I know that everyone is different with every pregnancy but like I said, Should I be concerned? I mean arent BXC supposed to prepare your body for labor???... What are your thoughts? Please be thoughtful when giving your insight.

Not everyone will have Braxton-Hicks contractions. Don't worry if you don't! I started having them at about 15 weeks, and had then regularly the rest of my pregnancy. I wouldn't say they were painful, so much as very uncomfortable...like cramps during your period (that being said, I should also say that I had to have a c-section because my uterus was too weak for full contractions due to a previous uterine surgery- that may be why my BH weren't painful- I also didn't know I was in labor the day I went in for my c-section). Really painful cramping could be a sign of pre-term labor, so if you are experiencing really painful cramps (or really bad lower back pain), call your dr. You may still experience BH in the coming weeks. Or you may not. Unless something is physically wrong with your uterus, your body is preparing for labor no matter if you feel BH contractions or not. I wouldn't worry about it!

Thanks for the advice.. and the heads up about pre-term labor and such... Ive been going on walks and it seems like only during my evening walk with my husband do i start getting crampy.. But its only like one constant cramp on my LOWER right side of my belly. It feels as if ive strained the muscle and goes away when i stop walking. My husband thinks as well that its a strained pelvic muscle but who knows... it doesnt bother me during the day just during that evening walk... Strange huh?

You are lucky. Braxton Hicks arent something that every pregnant woman get's. I am 34 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and I never had the braxton hicks with any of my girls. It's just your body preparing for the real delivery day. You should not be concerned at all. I am very glad I never got them. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and if your OB says the baby is healthy, chances are he's correct. :)

Thanks for responses ladies... I feel reassured now. My ob says baby is okay and healthy so like you all said I guess I have nothing to worry about!...I have my next ob appt this weds and cannot wait to see my lil sea monkey on the ultrasound screen. I have an U.S at every appt and havent been in almost 4 weeks bc my ob has been out of town due to training- hes a LTC in the army ( im a military spouse ) and hes deploying a month before im due :(....

i had 4 children and had them only with 3 so not everyone gets them so you have no need to worry , you dont have to have them in order for your body to get ready , sometimes you can have them and not even feel it i had that happen the dr is the one that told me about them so as long as your baby is doing okay you have no need to be concerned about it, my cousin had her first baby and never got them either so take care of you and the little one.

I have never been pregnant but I can tell you that if it happens you will know something is happening and it will scare you because you know that it is to early to have your baby. If it is not something you have experiances yet then be thankful. And if it does happen call your doc because only he can tell the difference.
