My employer can't afford to pay me my overtime!

I work for an employer who will not pay my overtime - during the winter season I work 60+ hours a week, but he will only pay me what my contract says - 27.5 hours per week. It is impossible for me to do my job in that time, I am a chef in a hotel, but every time I talk to him about it, he just says that he cannot afford it.
If you were in the same position, what would you do?

I would be looking for another job fast. That is ridiulous for you to be working all those hours and not even being paid for 40 hours. So you are giving him 32.50+ hours of free time too him. Sorry but your time is very important and you should not be giving it away for nothing. Good Luck to you and I hope you find a better paying job pronto!

First make sure you have all proof that is needed... hours work the time you clocked in and out. I know here in US we have a labor board that prevents these types of things from happening and the company will have to pay you those wages and they will have to pay a fine.
If I was you I would start looking for another job, stop working overtime at that job and do some research on the laws dealing with labor and not being paid for overtime and things of that nature.

Here in the USA there are laws that protect you and in Texas the employer does not have the option and you simply file a complaint with proof of hours to the right government agency, but I am not sure about the laws in France.
If it were me I would start looking for a different job, I am also not sure how easy a job might be to find there, but here is would be hard to do right now, so do not leave the job until you find a new better one.
