Has 9/11 changed how much you fly?

I didn't like flying before 9/11, and I really hate it now! My in laws bought us tickets to fly from Memphis to DC on 8/31/01. We were supposed to fly in January. Then 9/11 happened. I swore up and down I would NOT get on a plane. Come January, the airport was closed due to snow and ice, so I got a reprieve. We wound up flying in May 2002. I was terrified. And you know what really freaked me out? My husband is a type 1 diabetic, and at the time was taking shots (he now has an insulin pump and rarely takes shots). We walked right through security with his needles and were not stopped and questioned. This happened in Memphis and in Dulles (when we left).
I flew from Little Rock, AR to Portland, OR back on 10/24. I had to take my shoes off in LR and have them scanned. But I am still not convinced that air travel is as safe as it could be.
Don't get me wrong, I know that no one is 100% all the time. But still.........
