I learned on a standard shift (manual transmission) and have driven both. I do now drive an automatic transmission car but it would not be hard to drive a standard shift car. I used to drive big trucks that had two stick shifts and you had to time it right with you r foot on the clutch to change both sticks at the same time. some people like to be in charge of the car instead of just letting the car shift whenever it wants to shift. If there were no automatic transmission shift cars around then you would learn to drive a standard shift one of find other transportation.

I never could learn to drive a stick shift no matter how hard I tried. I never could make it out of the driveway. So I gave up. But I am a good driver of a automatic. Maybe a stick shift uses less gas I am not really sure what the draw of a stick shift is. Maybe it is because they can shift gears easily..to drive faster. But me I am happy with the automatic alot more.

I've only driven an automatic car once in my life - (for about 6miles because the owner/driver had broken his ankle). That seemed difficult to me simply because I wasn't used to it.

Car Companies should be able to provide its customers with options. There are people who prefer to drive stick shift cars.
