You don't necessarily have to have a themed wedding. That's just one option. We're not having a themed wedding at all. Our wedding color is purple, meaning the bridesmaids will wear purple skirts/dresses, the groomsmen will wear purple dress shirts/vests, and flower arrangements, etc will be purple. But that's about it. Not really a theme.
Then again, we're having a bare-bones sort of wedding. We didn't want anything really fancy or elaborate, we just want to get it done and over with and end all the hassle of planning it...lol.

I come from the United States. That means that the main things in the wedding are purple, yes. The bridesmaids dresses are and the flowers, but that's really it. And we can say that our wedding color was purple. But there's no real theme.
Not everyone's wedding from the US uses purple. My fiance and my wedding uses purple. Different people have different themes and different colors. Some people don't have either. It depends on preferences. :) My mother had neither a color nor a theme.

I am hoping I can get married one of these days. I want my wedding to be just simple, I would love to make fuschia as my motif, theme wedding?well, it's very countryside, the surrounding should be decorated with wild flowers and baby's breath. I don't want to have a very formal wedding programs, but just a little touch of practicality only. I plan to scrap bridesmaids and groomsmen and substitute flower girls instead to have a more innocent and purity theme.

When that day really comes, I wouldn't be specific about themes at all. I feel the idea of having a theme is rather foolish. No offense to those that love themed weddings. Sometimes these themes can make people show off to the max and sort of defeating the purpose of the wedding itself.
Expenses can go way off budget just to whet their theme appetite and worst off, just for 1-2 days. Another thing is that I love the color white so much. So for weddings, it would be perfect (in my eyes) to have a very simple and low key wedding. Just strictly for close friends and family. No need to have a theme is fine by me.

My fiance and I are getting married and we have decided on a western theme. By western I mean cowboy and cowgirl theme. We're happy with it and can incorporate fall decorations with it as we're getting married in the fall with the western colors going nicely with fall colors.
Themes aren't necessary but some people do them. I'm from the USA.

I would agree with galena here , Theme is not that important.
What is important is that you have a nice day and you enjoy it.
This is exactly what I focused on when I got married.
