Do you use holidays to give yourself a break from writing?

Do you give yourself a break from writing when the holidays come around? Or do you use them as an opportunity to have a little more spare time and write more? Are you lazy like me, and use the holiday as an excuse to stop writing? Or are you a go-getter who tries to capitalize on any spare time to achieve your writing goals?

Sometimes Yes, I do give myself this short holiday from writing, well I am someone who believes that no matter what I am doing I should be finding time for myself to relax without the tension to do the routine stuffs but then I happen to take my pen and paper sometimes when I am still in holidays, So how much I can try to escape this I sometimes find myself with the pen and the paper.

Yes, sometimes the reverse psychology works on me, too. I say to myself, "you can have the day off from writing" and then what do I begin craving? Suddenly I am filled with great ideas that I just have to write down because the writing muse has shown up at the door, holiday or not.
Thanks for your response. Enjoy your holiday...and your writing!

I pretty much write 365 days a year regardless of what holiday it is, though I might not write quite as much. Being addicted to the computer anyway, it's hard for me to take a vacation from it and work...though I've had to take a mild hiatus with my carpal tunnel and strained wrist problem which I still have and which is driving me batty...LOL

Maybe you need a voice recorder so that you do not have to write down your ideas until your wrist is all better. I am sorry it is hurt.

Sorry about the carpal tunnel...that can't be pleasant. I find I do a lot of writing in my head before I get it down on paper. That is, I think about what I am going to say, particularly the opening, for awhile before I commit anything to paper. Maybe you can work on beefing up the brain work and then minimize the time you actually need to use your hands!
I admire your writing spirit...365 days a year! Wow. I wonder how many days in a row I could sustain. Maybe I will challenge myself to find out!
Hope you had a nice holiday!

oh god, that's the worst part! When something happens to one's hands or relating to one's hands when you've time and inspiration...not to mention drive to write! Ack!
Perhaps by the end of your hiatus your newfound insanity will fuel more writing, eh? =D

I work a 40 hour week that leaves me mentally and physically exhausted so don't get to do much writing during the week. Weekends and holidays such as today I try to do as much writing as I can... Only got one article finished today but feel good about it and have lots more ideas.

Hey, that's one more article than I wrote! Seriously, I usually one write one or two a day on a good day, but my mind is always working. It's hard to maintain a momentum when you have a full-time job as well. Kudos to you!
Hope you did get to enjoy your holiday!

Good question! I think it is important to put family and friends first, if it is a choice between spending time with someone or in writing alone.
I do prefer to stay in or near to my home rather than to travel or visit on a public holiday, because I can do that on a day when places are less crowded and easier to get to.
Writing is a compulsion with me and it's a habit I cannot break. I never have a day when I don't write something, even if it's only a few myLot responses. Over a long weekend I will carry on with my usual activities, rather than stop altogether.

I agree with you about the traveling. I prefer to do it off-season when the crowds are smaller. My holiday activities were all on Sunday, so today was an open book for writing, but I spent it reading, walking, napping, watching TV...anything but writing, which I could have done. I even spent time reposting some old book reviews to the site Good Reads! Anything but write an original thought.
I wish I were more of the go-getter type. All I can say is back to the pen tomorrow.
Thanks for your response!

Holidays from work provide me with more time to do the things I would rather be doing if I didn't have to work and of course one of those things is writing. That is, when I don' end up having a ton of other things to do.

Writing isn't work? LOL Seriously, for me it is part pleasure, part pain. I have to work through the pain to get to the happy sensation and things start working well. Glad to hear that it's more uplifting for you!
Hope you had a nice holiday!

I'm not sure that I want to think of writing as "work" even though I feel I am working whenever I am doing any creative work. I never want that work to feel like a day job.

I tend to be more on go-getter style. Usually i do myLotting on my office, so when it is time to week end or holiday, my activity on myLot reduced. Not stopping but just reduced, i still write some discussion using my phone. It is not very convenient way, but I just can't hold to keep writing. I can't make my head stop thinking about writing

It's great that you are a go-getter and that you can't stop thinking about writing! My only thinking is guilt because I am not doing it. LOL

I tend to try to get more done online when I have a holiday. That is if I have a day off from my day job. I wish I had more places to sell writing.

Another go-getter! I guess it makes sense...none of the slackers (like me) is probably even online today. LOL It's good that you can capitalize on the extra day to devote to writing. Truthfully, I wish I were more like you.

A lot of people have suggested the voice to text software that is available. My computer can do the reverse, that is read text to me if need be...problem though most of that software speech to text is for PCs not Macs---the Mac one is $200...ouch

I try to write a little more around the holidays, because there are certain seasonal topics that are of interest those times of year so there's the chance to make more money. I do most of my writing for Xomba.com but also have my own blogs and a couple of other writing sites.
Also I find that during the holidays there's always downtime at airports, bus stations, etc., so that's time I can use to write rather than just sitting around.

Actually, I tend to try to use the holidays as an excuse to write more. I have a hard enough time finding time to write during regular life, so sometimes holidays find a decent opportunity for that sort of thing.
It's always a struggle, whether I have plenty of time or not. ^_^' But I rarely turn down this mythical thing called "free time".

Yes, you've certainly got a point. Haste makes waste, or so the early bird said. I am just the ultimate hedonist who looks for any opportunity to slack off. Or as I call it, "doing research." LOL
Hope you got a lot done today!

I feel very happy and creative when I am traveling so I always take my note book to write ideas in for my writing. I find great description comes to me easily when I am in a picturesque location and I can feel the warm sun on my back. I love to have adventure when I am on holiday and generally have this in the day time. Typically I come back to my accommodation in the evening before dark. Then I do some writing remembering the lovely day that I have had. A holiday for me is about exploration and writing more than it is about relaxation.

If I am at home, every day is the same for me - a writing day. Unless I have my granddaughter to stay. Then she and the house take up all my energy and it's all I can do the keep up with my blog. When I take a break away from home, I don't write articles or stories, but I often make notes for when I can get back to it.

Sounds like you know how to enjoy yourself! The only problem with depending on my mood...if I only wrote when I felt like it, I wouldn't get anything accomplished. I guess I am a hedonist at heart.

i don't accept new writing projects on holidays because just like other parents, i would like to spend some quality time with my kid. we just go to the mall or the zoo or wherever she likes. can't do that on ordinary days because i have a deadline to beat.

It's nice that you spend time with your child...as you should. And you never know when you are out living life where inspiration will strike. Hope you had a great holiday together!
