No one can have failed to notice the fact that an increasing number of Chinese are fond of celebrating some western festivals today. For instance,on Valentine's Day,many people give flowers or chocolate to the one they love.Another case in point is Christmas,on that day shops are decorated with Santa Claus pictures and Christmas trees,Products relative to Christmas are sold, and people give out presents.
There are many reasons for this phenomenon.First, thanks to the advanced media technology, the globalization of culture is possible now.Hollywood movies,hip-hop,and fast food are spreeding western idea unconsciously.Secondly,as people's living standard is greatly improved, many of them want their life more enjoyable, and celebrating western festivals is a good choice for them.Thirdly, commercial element is a direct driving power. Both foreign and local businesses, especially food and entertainment industries, benefit a lot from people's extra consumption.
The celebration of western festivals might lead to neglect of the traditional Chinese festivals, but it does bring people a lot of fun.Besides,it is also a chance for people to understand another culture. On the whole,it does more good than harmful.

I totally agree with you that more and more people like to celebrate western festivals. We have more change to understand their culture and life-style nowdays through all kinds of media. But for me, i don't buy any presents to my boyfriend on Valentine's Day and on Christimas. we only celebrate our traditional festival.
