Wolfram Alpha - the Google Replacement - or is it?

Wolfram Alpha opened recently with a Blaze of publicity, suggesting that it will knock Google off of it's throne as the best searche engine out.
I've tried a few searches and none of them brought up any reasonable answer. It is ok for calculation (however most pc's have a built in calculater), and if you type in a date it will give a few (useless?) facts about the date, however as an actual search engine it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Even putting in 'Where am I' got me hopelessly lost, it put me in the centre of Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland, which is soemwhere between 50 and 100 miles away from where I am actually sitting at the moment.
To be fair though, it does say that it is something more like Wikipedia than Google, in that you can add your own answers (not sure how it's done though). there is also a section with examples which will give an idea of some of the questions that you can ask.
