what is the differerence between friend and girlfriend

recently ,one of my friends is upset about her relationship with a boy,who she likes very much,but the boy only regards her as a good friend,not girlfriend.they have many common interests,playing together happily,talking joyfully,but the boy does not know her heart,and my friend does not want to tell him that she loves him.because she is not sure whether the boy loves her or not,and she is worried that it will be very embarassing if the boy refuses her,so, i am wondering that what is the difference beteween a friend and a girlfriend in the mind of boys?why he may get on very well with a girl but does not want to choose her as a girlfriend?

A friend is a friend. Like a girl's ordinary friend. But a gf is someone that a guy has feelings for, more than a friend, he also has physical contact and stuff. lol.
