Hello there fellow MyLotters, In my opinion writing is something that is used to show your true feelings. What you feel deep down in that organ that pumps blood, that is red, that organ which we call the heart. I have been writing poems for a long time now, I believe ever since I was 11 years old, I mostly write about love and depression because of Love. I`m a male, I give these poems to the people whom I love and most find it nice, but is it kind of feminine? haha. What do you think writing is about? is it about letting the emotions loose or just passing time? Well, tell us!
Happy MyLotting everyone!!

I write poems as well but I also just write my feelings/problems down. I only make poems in Dutch. I'm just a novice poem writer who tends to vent his emotions it's not about passing time for me. Without writing letters and poems I really would get crazy.

Haha! Just like you, poetry writing is not something for me just to pass time, it comes from deep down. I only write when in the night and I`m awake and I think of everything about life and whats going on around me. Ideas just flow into my mind.

yes i agree with you. writing solves a lot of problems. always remember that pen is always mightier than a sword. most of the time, friends get close to each other because of writing. others reconcile because of it also. keep it up. that would bring you to somewhere bro.

I don't think its just for us females to use writing as a way to get out our true feelings I believe anyone can do that. I use writing to get out feelings, Writing to me is a hobby and a coping skill that I've used since I was a teen. I was home alone a lot so I had a lot of time to think and get out a lot that I was thinking and feeling.
So yea I use writing as away to get out my true feelings.

For me, writing is a great way to get my emotions sorted out. When I would get mad I always found it better if I could remove myself from the situation and write down what I was feeling and why. It helped me process what was going through my head and separate that I was really upset about instead of just feeding off raw emotion.

I don't think it's at all feminine. Our poetry class last semester was half girls and half guys and the guys wrote just as amazing poetry as the girls!
I think writing is a combination of things. It's about purging certain emotions, thoughts, feelings, ideas, etc. :) It's a form of entertainment and a form of therapy all wrapped into one.

Hello there phyrre, good that you think it`s not feminine. I`m like the only guy that can write poems in my class. The other guys, when they write poems or quotes end up sounding quite funny. xD I agree with you as well that it is a form of entertainment and therapy all in one. In relaxes me alot when I write and keeps me thinking.

One of my poems was: (keep an open mind I was only 9) I was an abused child and got teased a lot in school when I wrote this
When you are sad and down
and you feel the world on you shoulders
Don't you dare frown
but smile and just be bolder.
Tomorrow will come like the beat of a drum
Don't let it pass you by
Wether they call you smart or dumb
You know who you are inside.
Enjoy the day no matter what comes your way
and you will find
that when you leave your troubles behind
You will have a better day

Writing is a form of expression. Giving people poetry that you written is not being feminine. It means you are sensitive and romantic. Alot of girls [who actually have some depth] enjoy this in a man. A man that lets his hair down and shows something besides attitude and macho bravado can be very endearing. Writing is to communicate something. Everyone has their own technique.

No, i don't write poems that would bore people because there's not even a few responses in my discussion, so how can I make a poem now? I used to write some poems when I was a teen but that didn't last because there was a better poet. but i did make discussions that entails about my real life in which i have also released my emotions on some of those discussions.

hello,
i agree with you that writing is a way to let emotions loose. honestly, i'm not good in writing poems or what. but i do write my feelings.
i remember when i was in high school & college, i use to have a diary and i write there all my feelings and experiences. when i'm happy i wrote with a smile in my face and when i'm depressed, i wrote with tears in my eyes...and my feelings really reflects with my writings...
up to now i still write down my feelings everytime i'm depressed and it really works for me to loosen up my emotions coz right after i wrote my feelings, my mood changes and feel relief...
have a nice day!
:-)

yes yes, true, i'm keeping all those diaries or pieces of papers where i wrote my feelings and when i read those things i wrote, all memories during that time comes back...and its a good feeling for me, no matter what i wrote there it always put a smile on me...
oh i remember, i also wrote a poem way back...but that's only one, i wrote it for my bf, i was so in love then and all words just came out rhyming...hehehehe. i give that to him for our anniv. and i'm happy that he appreciates it! i can say that my writings plays a very important role in my life, especially in my love life, coz that's one thing that keeps my relationship to my bf going even if we have a long distance relationship then. now, we're happily married! :-)

I don't think so. If you write poems, I think you are right. Your writing is used to show your feelings. But what about writing the technical articles? What about writing the news? Based on the above, I think only part of writing shows your feelings. Right?

I write poems, stories that have no endings and opinions. And I must say, I suck at the two of them. I don't know about the opinions, though. The reason? Because I never fell in love before. I have never experienced what I wrote on my cheap paper and I am too lazy, most of the time, to write the things that passes across my closed lids. But I must say, writing is done for every rational reason you could ever think there is. A person writes a diary, either to jot down the events and to be able to remember them later or that person just wants to lessen the burden on his/her heart. A person writes stories because either he/she is good at it or he/she wants people to appreciate things around them. Me, I write because I feel like writing. It's a hobby that never leaves. Imagination is my passion and expressing them is a necessity or else I'll feel my head is going to burst. lol
Happy MyLotting to you, too!

haha! Hey there sinfulrose, nice name! Its good that you write poems and stories even if you aren`t good because if you just keep on writing and writing you`ll turn better and better and you wont know it but youll turn to a pro! I agree, if you cant tell the world what you are feeling inside just write it somewhere and keep it like in a notepad or diary of somesort and make sure no one sees it! it feels good letting something out of your heart!

Writing is art. Anyone can create something, anyone can be an artist. But the best stuff is the stuff you do with feeling. Most writers cannot properly make something that they don't have somewhere inside themselves. A good writer can live the story, or song, or poem as they write it. =)
Emotion is a big part of my writing to me. It's part of the thrill of it, I think, to be able to go through the emotions and feeling of the characters and situation as they're born out of my own mind.

Writing is a part of our history. I love reading diaries and letters of those people really a part of history. Right now I'm reading a book with the letters and diary of Sophie Dupont and its so interesting to see the norms, how they felt of them, and what life was like. I grew up writing and I remember back in the 80's when my father got his Tandy, he loaded a 'game' on there where you could create newsletters and stories but for kids! My father must of known it would come in useful. I would write on it as if I was writing my own book or newspaper. I have never been drawn to poetry like history, reading nonfiction but I do a lot of notetaking. I did try writing poetry and it is about love because it was a hard time in my life when I gave it a try and it felt deep to me but never went anywhere with it because I never felt my poetry could be original because theres just soo much of it circulating. I keep a blog online but under a pseudoname and its very personal. I do not think giving poetry to a women is feminine per se but under society's standards I could understand how its seen that way as we try to discourage men to stop expressing their feelings (nip it in the bud for most before teens) and it might just make some uncomfortable. Hey, I say follow your heart because trying to fit into the 'norm' is debilitating.

Hey there! Haha! Yeah! Writing is a part of our history. Like the USA`s Declaration of Independance and Homer the great historian and many more. I also read a few books about shake speare. shakespear`s stories and plays really interest me because they are really romantic and have morals at the end as well.

I am in total agreement with you. As a matter of fact I wrote my first poem when I was 9 and it has ALWAYS been my passion since. Not just poetry but writing as well. It really is very therapeutic no matter what a person may be going through at the time. Some of them however, I just rather keep to myself. I like to write about life in particular hard times and the fact that there is ALWAYS a way out.

i used to write when i'm lonely or feeling elated -- something to that effect..
ever since, i'm not the type of person that shares what i think or feel. so whenever i have time or alone in some place, i just grab a pen and a paper and write it all out.
most of the times i end up writing a poem. some of them was posted to my private blog actually.

I write for many different reasons. I write reviews, short stories, for blogs, articles, and I also write poetry sometimes. Most of the time when I write poetry it is for myself or someone I am close to like you do and when I write a poem for that reason then yes, I write them about myself and the emotions I am feeling at the time. I have written poetry for other reasons other places and then they tend to be general poetry that have nothing to do with my feelings or emotions.

I agree with you that writing is a way to let out your true feelings. But writing is a form of art, and art can also be defined as a way to let out one's emotions. Writing is basically like painting, drawing, or sculpting. It's a way to express yourself!
