Hmmm....
It wont help you much with spam mail I can tell you that. They keep coming whether your're online or not. And a modem doesn't take that much of electricity as well. But it might just increase it's life span.

Be be careful not to be overdoing it. Like just plugging and unplugging everytime you have to go eat something or go to washroom. Too much fluctuation also decreases life span of appliances.

I am fair to Midland.. that's about it! Trying to find ways to earn some money on line...like so many others!
I had my electric billdown to $1 a day... was stupid as it was at $29-$30 a month and I was killing myself to figure how to make it lower... then did the math and realized $1 a day is pretty darn good and econmical!

yes, it is a good idea I wrote an entire article on going green and saving electricity, unplug everything you are not using, like the computer, dvd player, toaster everything.

Hey there! I don't think that it can help you not get some spam mails. Even if you are not online they will still come. Your modem doesn't have the ability do prevent spams. Only your email address provider can. With electricity I don't think there will be a significant effect on your bill because modem eat less electricity. But it is good because your modem can get some rest and it is good for its longevity.lol

My husband and I would go nuts if we unplugged our modem and turned off our computers. It was bad enough when we were only using one... we woudln't want to not use a computer at all. We use our computers to earn an income, so were we to turn off our computer, we would lose money. Most of our electricity is used on things like the fridge and the stove, so turning off the computer and modem would not save much and again, since we use our computers to earn money, we'd just lose.

Lol. It would be interesting to know how you get on with the mails, but I have the feeling that as soon as you plug your computer in, they'll come flying in from a central control point. Good luck anyway, my friend.
Brightest Blessings.

not sure but if you turn off everything when not using it, it sure saves money
i turn off pc, lights, monitor, tv, water tap just everything, if not using it
we don't use a/c in spring and summer just ceiling fan and open windows so it saves
in winter however we have no choice, have to use heater

I guess you may be able to save on the electricity bills but I am not sure it will prevent spam. But these days with the talk of global warming and stuff, they always recommend we turn of all electrical appliance when not using them. So I guess you are saving the Earth as well.

It depends on your set up and how good you are at resetting the modem so it works again. I know with ours, if you turn it off, it can take forever to get it back online and you have to remember the password or you have no access.
As for saving on electricity, you'd not save very much.
As for spam and junk emails, it is your email provider that accepts them and you then download them from their server, so you will still get them even if your modem is turned off.

I have never thought about unplugging my Modern. Why not just turn your computer off to save on electricity. But, I guess if you unplug your Modern and not get so much junk mail that would be great also. Keep us posted if you are doing that and let us know if you are receiving less junk mail.

The modem takes less electricity than a flashlight. You won't save a thing that way. The junk and spam will wait patiently until the next time you log into your email account. This won't solve a thing for you.
