how do you know if you have a true friend?

I have a friend who I thought was a real friend I even made her my daugthers godmother and there was a family problem because she told her bf(my brother in law) some stuff that I had in confidence told her that my mother in law had said about her she always tells me things that they say about me and i never tell anyone and when we all got together she never spoke up about everything that she told me should i consider her a friend or should I just stay away from her?
