Wasn't Gattaca one of the most hope filled inspirational movies of its time? I mean, the boy was born with all of these shortcomings where he was predetermined by society to be lower than his brother and nearly the rest of all respectable society and then he rose to become one of their chosen elite. I cried in this movie, did anyone else?

A very, very good film. I bought it on video in a charity shop a few months ago, and I've already watched it three times, which is unusual for me. I like the way it shows that an individual who believes in his own potential can achieve his goals, even in the face of a society that writes him off at birth - a good allegory for the class system in any society. The film's got a good luck to it, sort of retro/art deco, and it's got a good set of characters, which is important, it being a character driven drama. I also like the ironic touches, such as the Gattaca corporation itself being so uptight and deadly dull that even the astronauts wear business suits.
