Land of the Lost

When I first heard they were making a Land of the Lost movie I was sad. I watched the show as a kid and movies from classic TV shows rarely turn out well. When I found out Will Ferrell had been cast as Rick Marshall, I almost literally cried. I cannot stand Will Ferrell. He plays the same role in every movie - a 30-something going on 13 whose bag of comedic tricks contains little more than fart jokes and falling down stairs. Today SciFi channel has been running a marathon of Land of the Lost episodes (all of them I think; it's been on for about 16 hours now) and in watching it I have made my decision. The Land of the Lost movie cannot be anything less than a travesty. The show was absurd; all of the Sid and Marty Krofft shows were. But the characters were serious. They were serious people caught in a completely outrageous and absurd situation, trying to get home. The show really wasn't ever even funny. Once in a while, something would happen and people would laugh but overall it was a drama. I think the producers/directors/casting directors went the totally wrong direction with this and that makes me sad.

i've been watching that too well,hey..i haven't seen them since it came out.. the funny thing,i remember it as being bad back then, but in re-watching it,i realize just how bad the effects were now,one scene you could see the wall seam. yea,i think hollywood has run out of ideas.they're remaking everything, though i never thought they'd get to this series.if they ever redo the old ark 2 series,i may stop watching movies

LOL all of the Krofft shows were like that. They were very low budget but that's what made them great.

Too bad I missed the marathon! I used to watch that show when I was growing up. I was terrified of Sleestaks. My mother told me we had Sleestaks living in our basement. I was disappointed when I heard the series was going to be made into a movie. I was upset when I heard about Will Ferrell, too. He is going to ruin the movie and ruin the role of Marshall. He's not nearly as good-looking as the original actor. Not to mention, he'll probably make Rick Marshall look like a bumbling idiot. I hope the movie version is not a satire of the series. The special effects were cheesy, but it was still a great series.

I never watched the show as a kid because I thought it was stupid looking. Maybe I missed out on something but I never saw the allure to it. I won't waste my money on the theater version because it looks like a 2 hour joke that's 1:59 minutes too long. I guess the DVD sales for the show will spark some interest, maybe you could check those out.

I had never watched the Land of the Lost until this marathon today. I watched a few episodes during the day and have really watched the last 2. What a great show. I don't mind the low budget, its just good entertainment. I love references to literature. Movies that are made after favorite tv shows don't usually work for people who remember or liked the original. I don't expect this movie to be different.

Finally! Someone who can't stand will farrell!! I'm with you on that. He absolutely irritates me. I think he should retire immediately. I watched the show as a kid also. I might watch the movie out of curiosity, but I'm really not expecting much.
