I don't know about other countries but in my country, every man have to give military service at the age of 20 and you have the right to postpone it for a few years if you are studying in those years.
The current law applies differently for people who are graduated from university and who aren't. I mean, the people who have a Bachelor's Degree, will give a shorter time of military service.
Nowadays they are about to change the law and everybody will be equal and giving a longer military service.
After seeing many disappointing social and political issues here, I just don't feel I have a cost to pay for the country while some "important" people will always find a way to save themselves.
I just feel stupid to have studied Bachelors Degree for four years.
What do you think of military service? Do you think it is essential?

Hello! In India we don't have such compulsion. It is purely optional to serve in the military. But I think it would be proper to make it compulsory so that people would feel the patriotism and live a disciplined life.thanx.

the life at the military service is just not my thing. While I am already disciplined, I don't want to be treated like an animal after all.

In England it is not forced to join the military service, although it is voluntary many, amny people choose to join, they then get the best men and women for the job as they actually want to be there. I think it would be better if people werent forced because they arent giving their everything if they dont want to be there.

I think this is the best way for that. If you are forced to be there, you will learn fighting and shooting just to protect yourself, not your country but your tongue will always (have to) mention you are doing it for the country, ha ha! Isn't that strange?
A few years ago I was not thinking in that way and was OK with military service, but now I am unsure about it.

I don't agree with military service because I don't agree in teaching people to kill, I have heard people say the youth need diciplin and such but I think a better way would be to teach people compassion and maybe a good way for that to be a more of a community service like helping in nursing homes or even animal society for twelve months for the young...just my opinion.

I wish many countries was in that kind of a modern stage... That's utopic but it is also what I would love to see...
However, the "human" kind is just never good. They always tend to kill another :((
