Donating organs or donating your body to science?

I know that some religions are against cutting open the body, or removing anything from the deceased. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with donating organs or your body to science after you die. I fell that I might as well "recycle" my remains--after all, I won't be using them. What about you guys? Would you donate your organs or your body to science? Would you donate a family member's remains?

I am a registered organ donor. I think that if I can potentially save another person or persons lives when I die, that I should. I'm a little wary or donating my body to science. I know that it helps train doctors and good things can come of that too, but I can't quite bring myself to being cut up over and over again. Maybe I'll get to that point, but for now, I'll stick with donating my organs.

It is kinda gross, but sometimes those bodies donated to "science" end up in CSI training facilities for teaching forensic scientists. I think that's kinda cool, and would probably be the basis for donating my body to science.

My husband and I are organ donors but, as for donating our bodies to science...no. Since my husband is a widower I have seen first hand the peace he and his grown children as well as his grandchildren derive from visiting the gravesite of his late wife. If she had donated her body to science, where would they go to feel close to her and to remember?

That's very sweet--I'd never thought of it that way. Thanks for posting, spalladino!

I am all for it, except mom says we have to sell her body to science. She says that they can not only afford it but will learn lots from what is left of her. I on the other hand am fine being a donation.

Good for you! I know a lot of people that think they are signing up to be an organ donor by putting that heart on their drivers license. How do you sign up for the national organ donor list?
