I grew up in an Italian family. Only in my adult life have I tried sweet spagetti sauce. I know a lot of Italian restaurants that serve the sweet kind. Why? I don't like the tatse of it, even if it's homemade I won't go near the stuff. If I buy canned, I'll buy Ragu.
What about you?

I like sweet and spicy tomato sauces. My roomate in college was Italian and her dad my pasta and sauce from scratch and it was the best pasta and sauce I ever tasted.
I've made my own sauce from recieps on-line. I think my sauce tastes good, my family likes it but if I buy from a can its either Ragu or Prego.

My Sicilian father taught me how to make homemade sauce and that is all I will have. I do not like the sweet tasting ones either. I think they do it to tone down the acidity of the tomato a bit. But I simmer it for about twelve hours and then refrigerate it for another twelve and there is no need for the sugar because the acidity is very low by the time I'm done.
